Poem – Amazing Feeling from Love Poems
‘I am offering this poem’ is a poem written by Jimmy Santiago. The poet-speaker claims that he is a poor man right outside the bat. He’s got nothing but his poetry to give to his lover. A poem may be a bunch of kind words according to this speaker, but it can do a lot. He compared his poem to a blanket in winter that could comfort his wife. His poem he compares to food. He says his poem is like a compass, which helps the beloved find her way when they are lost. In the final stanza, his poem is the one thing his loved one wants to live, and he makes a rather audacious argument. If I were the one to whom the poem was written, I would feel calmed and happy. The thought of knowing that my lover treasures me to the extent that no gift can match his love to me is just amazing. I would be the happiest person on earth, and I would walk around, showing my friends this lovely gift wrapped in words to me by my lover. The poem is again a figure of comfort and calmness in the mind of the beloved.
In the second poem, ‘Since Feeling is First’, Cumming describes how love for someone can make a person forfeit societal norms and standards. The collapse of traditional typography is in line with its intention of overturning societal norms and values and embracing love to his lover. The speaker persuades his lady to pay attention to love rather than to norms. Metaphorically, the vocabulary of items reflects those social perceptions and values. The lover persuades her that those who take care of these needless rules will never kiss with love entirely and profoundly. To him, his positive kisses are a better fate here than knowing societal standards and values. If this poem were written to me, I would feel a sense of belonging to someone – my lover. I would dance around every moment of my life. Knowing that someone can let go of his cultural norms for my sake is loving and mazing. I would be an ever-smiling lady, and every moment I read the poem, a feeling of calmness and relaxation would follow me.
