Introduction
Effective healthcare leadership entails having decent strategies that would be used to improve the healthcare work environment. They include being committed, organized, and determined to attain what is seemingly impossible for the others. In my case, I believe that having effective leadership skills goes a long way in ensuring that patients receive the best services.
Past/Current Leadership Skills – Which do you think shows more of a leadership style?
In the recent past, I served as a team representative for The Big Clash Gameshow. I was the link between the chosen 5 and The Official TBC Team. It was my role to form a team of 5 players and support them over the course of 6-8 weeks to prepare for a gameshow against another university and get them to win and to the final. This role insisted on being present at all rehearsals and guiding the team on what strategies can be used to win the game. As a previous Big Clash participant, myself, my own experience had a massive impact on the team to feel more confident about playing. This experience allowed all of us to create a bond and the determination and effort shown by each member allowed them to win the 1st game and progress onto the next stage. My role in the workplace is characterized by the following;
- Confer with company officials to develop method and procedures to increase sales, expand markets and promote business.
- Direct and supervise employees engaged in sales, inventory-taking or in performing services for customers. I was handling the whole department alone while providing excellent customer service. I was monitoring the sales activities to ensure that customers received satisfactory service. Train workers, and assign them to specific duties.

Public Health Skills and Knowledge Framework
From completing the public health skills and knowledge framework, I learned that I could develop my ability to lead the others. Still, the opportunity made it possible for me to learn from some of the weaknesses that I experienced in the film. I learnt that an effective public health leader is a person who directs himself or herself to find work and do it flexibly. Some authors such as Vlach (2018) and Rozakis (2018) dub a public health leader as ‘an independent contractor’, ‘a service provider’ or only ‘self-employed’. While public work has become increasingly fashionable in modern times, debate exists whether anyone can complete it. First, being a public health leader is a good thing if someone values independence and flexibility (Vlach, 2018). The theory of self-determination explains that people do not always want to be controlled by others. A person can be his or her boss if they become a public health leader but not a full-time employee. A McKinsey study showed that 97 percent of public health leaders were satisfied with their daily work (Vlach, 2018). Besides, being a public health leader can be a good thing because one decides what time to work (time flexibility) and where to work from (location flexibility). For instance, someone who values spending more time with family would prefer to be a public health leader. However, being independent and valuing flexibility implies that one has to get their contracts and clients, which can be challenging (Tench, Fawkes & Palihawadana, 2018). Some of the challenges include uncertainty, cash-flow disruptions and bad debts.
NHS Healthcare Leadership Model
Upon completing the leadership model, I would like to develop my critical thinking skills. This is the one area that I noticed needs significant efforts and dedication from the practical viewpoint. I learnt that an effective public health leader is a person who directs himself or herself to find work and do it in a flexible manner. Some authors such as Vlach (2019) and Rozakis (1998) dub a public health leader as ‘an independent contractor’, ‘a service provider’ or only ‘self-employed’. While general work has become increasingly fashionable in modern times, debate exists whether, anyone can complete it. I noted that this is the one challenge that most leaders undergo.

From completing the convoy, I learned that what drives a leader is the motivational stances that enable them to do what they do each passing day. Second, being a public health leader is suitable for a person who wants to proliferate and improve their expertise. According to Tench, Fawkes and Palihawadana (2018), traditional employment limits people who think big. A person who seeks to grow his or her skills or career quickly may not do so within the formal employment environment, which is bureaucratic.
Additionally, salaries are more or less fixed, which limits the people who are motivated by money. However, people wishing to venture into public health need professional advice before their undertaking. Vlach (2018) notes that 67 percent of former American public health leaders would not choose public health again in future.
Goals and activities to develop my leadership skills
The three goals that I have in this case include improving on my performance metrics in the workplace, becoming an involving employee, and engaging in what is deemed the best for the healthcare environment where I operate.
The activities to undertake include; taking part in more institutional activities pertaining my work, visiting the other institutions that I believe have a positive viewpoint about my work, and taking part in workshops aimed at sharpening the skills of employees. I believe that engaging these strategies is the best thing that I would do to my professional life.
Conclusion
Upon completing the workbook as well as developing the poster, I learned that leadership is multifaceted. While a person would believe that they are good leaders based on the fact that they are persistent with what they do, it is integral to be all rounded. This means that such leaders should be ready to engage in what is best for them. Overall, public health is a good option if someone wishes to make a significant impact on the community: personal circumstance. This is common among young graduates or people transitioning from one job to another. Public health provides an opportunity for such people to earn a living and avoid creating gaps in their work experience. Nevertheless, some end up taking up public health as their lifestyle, considering the advantages already enlisted above.
