Power in an organization refers to the ability of an individual to create an influence on people. Control is based on how the subordinate tend to behave, and it is involved in how individuals tend to exchange the different transactions where the target is one who receives the use of power. Power/ Influence Relationship
At my workplace, I was involved with too many interactions with both my boss and the customers. At times I found it difficult as I would find my self in one extreme trying to please the customer but ended up making my boss irritated. I found it difficult to please both sides as one would also be compromised. The fact that I had no power, the boss would ensure I did things his way all the time and the result leading to failure. On realization, my boss decided to use his power in a manner that he could understand my needs, perspective, and temperaments. With the consideration, his power influenced me positively and made me work in a manner that benefited the organization as a whole.
Conclusion
Every organization has a more powerful individual as well as subordinates who have to adhere to the powerful individual, even though power is from different aspects it is essential to ensure that at all times no individual ends up feeling embarrassed or not working at it’s best. For individuals in power, the main focus should not be the power than one has; rather, it should be on the influence that is created.
