Their way of approach toward crime is keenly observed, and also; they continue to receive mixed reactions from civilians and significant government agencies, mostly those associated with the justice administration and crime, like the correctional centers and courts.
Maintenance of peace among the citizen is their main work, ensuring a smooth co-existence of people within a region. The law gives them the power to arrest those involved in miss conduct or to disturb the peace of other citizens. However, they face a major setback through the comments from the public about them, which are usually full of complaints due to association and accusation of negligence, incompetence, lack of fairness, and corruption (Richard,2015). Most citizens seem not to understand the issues that police encounter as well its satisfaction. Although not all of them have a problem of their conduct most of them portrays a bad image in the society, making the public fear or even not corporate within when an incident happens. The junior officers who are mostly on the ground within the people are the ones who pose bad behaviors. They lack a good relationship with the citizen; this challenge is hazardous because they are entrusted with the role of protecting the citizens.
There is a various issue that police face which affects them and is generally reported by the citizens been policed, and police entrusted with the role of maintaining order. This issue can be categorized as major and minor issues. Dempsey, John, and Linda (2015) highlight that major issues been reported are about the cost of operation, crime, governance, and priorities of activities, detections, among others. The problems are directly associated with the police because they fall on the duties they conduct daily. Moreover, some of the items are within their roles and responsibilities to citizens.
Governance is among these issues that face the police; this includes the model and strategic mode of governance used currently by the police. Therefore, need instance solution due to their involvement with leadership. There are several types of police services found with the police department, which bring a lot of contradiction through the clash over roles and also the issue of conflict of interest among different units such as APA, SOCA, and ACPO (McElreath et. l,2013). Unnecessary protocols and bureaucracy are among the result of the confusion within these police departments; this issue poses a significant challenge within the police forces. Due to this challenge, the police potential expertise and skill are not full exercise undermining their role to both the government and the general public.
Priorates of operation is another issue that faces the police. Many policies prefer to be involved in the process, which is less risky and also with loopholes of corruption. Most of the primary police operation is the administration and investigating minor criminal offenses. This involves evaluating matters that affect the public within their area. The government put more resources in much and risk operations, which are always of higher priority due to the threat it poses to the citizens. Police involved in this operation are required to have top skills and use their expert skills in tackling any situation during the process. It was discouraging when an officer is assigned to duties which he/she may not like. It obviously will result in incompetence and a lack of motivation. The satisfaction of such police is demoralized. It is recommendable policies to operate in the section where they have a chance to portrays their skills and also their area of interest.
Another issue with police is a crime among police officers. The criminological and conceptualization of police crime undermine their role to the public and also the state, bearing the fact that they are sworn as low enforcement officers. It is quite unfortunate for an officer to be involved in criminal activities, although must of this act may be hidden or even not reported to the relevant authorities. Lack of information on police crime is one of the significant challenges in handling this issue among the officer ( Perri, Lichtenwald & Terrance ,2010). Extrajudicial killing is one of the common crimes committed by most of a police officer, but the question remains buried due to a lack of evidence. Police brutality is a crime must officers commit, research shows the response to this crime by police is self-defense when dealing with hostile members of the society. Many civilian appeals to the justice system to intervene, especially when they fall victim of police brutality. There are other police crimes like corruption cases and associating with criminals in committing a crime. To control this job satisfaction for the officers should be considered, their condition of living improved and also offered the right protection measures from the hostile members of the society.
This study in criminal justice administration is crucial for career preparation and guidance. Through this study am equipped with vast knowledge about various type of crime and justice system. There is an opportunity to figure out what exactly is criminology, how to curb it, and legal measures to take when dealing with criminals — knowing the probabilities and considerations in feeding a career in criminology its right for me to venture my study in various aspects of criminal justice administration as discussed above to enhance understanding in this field.
This study also helps one to understand the different criminal justice fields, such as the police, court, and corrections. Each area is dealing with various issues, mostly according to the duty and responsibility they have to the civilians. The criminal justice administration has many offers and opportunities in the area of interest, depending on the educational level ranging from the associate to doctrine degree. Although this study has covered a large part about criminal justice, there is some recommendation which may boost in associated criminology, like the vast research on how to reduce crime mostly among those who are assigned the duty to administer a good example been police crime.
In conclusion, criminal justice administration is an excellent measure to prevent and punish crime and also provide an opportunity for those involved in corruption to reform through the use of correction facilities. There should be much effort to ensure the services offered by the crime and justice system are genuine and of help to the general public. Also, working together in this system will boost their performance, thus offering the best services.
