PRESTIGIOUS JOURNAL LONG FORM ARTICLE
You have been commissioned by a prestigious journal to write a long form article (with a maximum of 2500 words) on one of the following subjects: • Given Senator Elizabeth Warren has made it a campaign policy to consider breaking up the technology giants, what is the case for Europe following suit? • The broadcast sector has been hit hard by the advent of streaming services, and many are calling the BBC/ITV joint venture Britbox a failure already. Can the broadcasting industry fight back against the streamers and if so, how? • Three years ago, the sharing economy was being hyped as the next big development in the technology economy. Many were sceptical that there was really such a thing. What is the state of play for the sharing economy sector in 2020, and is there really value in the proposition? The journal you have been commissioned to write for is called “The Financier”. It claims an audience amongst informed people in the areas of policy and finance, and will point to its reputation as a major influencer of opinion. [unique_solution]Articles in The Financier are normally posted without a by-line. You will be an exception, but the journal expects that in whichever of the three areas you choose to write about, you will produce something that is informative, intelligent, and takes an interesting and creative angle on the subject. The journal is looking for something that ties economic theory to the subject, not merely an opinion piece, so you should consider the writing as a way of linking theory to the outside world. The article must be less than 2500 words long. The journal assumes that your fee would also include a budget for editing. If you write a better article in fewer words, then the journal will return some of the editing fee to you as cash (or in this case, marks,) so there is also a brevity bonus. You are encouraged to use diagrams or charts of data, but you must create these yourselves – copy and paste will probably violate intellectual property rights and the journal will withhold some of your fee for doing so. Sourcing is not sufficient – they must be created by you. Within each section of this coursework you may be assessed on the following aspects, as applicable and appropriate to this particular assessment, and should thus consider these aspects when fulfilling the requirements of each section: • The accuracy of any calculations; • The strengths and quality of your overall analysis and evaluation; • Appropriate use of relevant theoretical models, concepts and frameworks; • The rationale and evidence that you provide in support of your arguments; • The credibility and viability of the evidenced conclusions/recommendations/plans of action you put forward; • Structure and coherence of your considerations and reports; • Appropriate and relevant use of, as and where relevant and appropriate, real world examples, academic materials and referenced sources. Any references should use either the Harvard OR Vancouver referencing system (see References, Citations and Avoiding Plagiarism) • Academic judgement regarding the blend of scope, thrust and communication of ideas, contentions, evidence, knowledge, arguments, conclusions. • Each part has requirements with allocated marks, maximum word count limits/page limits and where applicable, templates that are required to be used.
