Production and technical problem in the Engineering Industry
Summary
Engineering is a sector that mostly involves production and manufacturing processes, and often these processes are accompanied by technical issues. Also, the shortage of raw materials is another problem faced by the engineering industries. Raw materials are essential in the engineering industries because they facilitate manufacturing and production processes. According to research, about 90% of engineering industries experience a shortage of raw materials in the entire globe (Sharma and Gupta). For quality products to be produced by these industries, there should be proper working machinery and replacement of the unwieldy ones.
The most affected engineering industry is the metal industry, and they often face production problems due to poor quality productions. It has been estimated that about 40% of the metal industries worldwide experience difficulties in receiving orders because of poor productions. The arguable reason for this problem to occur is that most engineering industries fail to make improvements in their plants and machinery once they are established. This eventually results in a frequent breakdown of this machinery during the production process. On the other hand, other engineering industries have not yet adopted modernization, and they are still stuck in their old machinery instead of replacing them with new ones. For the issue of raw materials, most industries have had difficulties in acquiring raw material at the right time, in the right place, at the right quantity and quality. Most, at times, the engineering industries purchase their raw materials at higher prices since they are rare to find. This, in turn, results in the production of goods at unreasonable prices, making them have difficulties in receiving orders. Furthermore, raw materials, especially for the metal industries, are found in very remote areas; therefore, transportation is challenging. This incurs extra transportation costs to the industry. Raw materials are very significant in the engineering industries because they constitute almost 75% of the total cost of production (Sharma and Gupta).
Opinion
Production and the technical problem is a massive issue in the engineering industries, and it is mainly affecting the production of goods. Accessibility to raw materials and the quality of machinery used in the industries happens to be the leading cause of this problem. Furthermore, I think the ignorance of these industries for not adopting modernization has resulted in poor functioning of the machinery meant for the production process. If they can utilize new machinery by replacing them with old ones, there is a possibility that the level of production will increase. However, the issue of raw materials seems to be an issue that needs more attention, and proper recommendations should be put into action. I think the government should step in here and assist the industries by creating good roads so that these industries will get access to the raw materials quickly. Most of the raw materials are found in remote areas; therefore, transportation is challenging. If this issue of transportation is solved, I think there will be a significant change in production in the engineering industries.
Reaction
Production and technical problem in the engineering industries seems to be among the most significant issues after financials problems. Production of good and quality products and goods depends on the quality of the production machinery and the availability of raw materials. This article focuses on the two factors and the author in writing it wanted to show the reader why the engineering industries often experience production and technical problems.
To begin with, he mentioned that reduced production in these industries has led to low order placement, which has mostly affected the growth of the sectors. The author says that the most affected industry is the metal industry, which has experienced difficulties in replacing older machinery and purchasing new ones (Sharma and Gupta). Production machines for the metal industries are costly, leaving alone the maintenance of these machines. Furthermore, operating new machinery needs a lot of expertise, and therefore employees will have to be trained to use the new ones since they had been used to the old ones. This will also incur other extra costs because experts will be hired to train the employees. That is why most of the sectors opt to maintain their old machine, which has, in turn, resulted in reduced quality production of goods. Quality determines the number of orders an industry will receive since no client will afford to purchase poor quality products.
Inadequate raw materials are another problem that has contributed most to the low production in the engineering industries. The author states that raw materials for the engineering industries are hard to find, and it usually incurs extra costs such as transportation cost. On the other hand, these raw materials are costly since it is difficult to find the right ones. I think this is the reason why the author concludes by saying that raw materials constitute 75% of the total production. If the industries find a way of accessing the raw materials quickly, then there is no doubt that the amount of output will increase significantly. I came to understand this logic after reading the article. I think the author’s explanations on this problem were very detailed and understandable since I got all the points he highlighted.
Importance
In curb this problem, the engineering industries should make sure that they come up with proper solutions that will ensure that there is a high quality production of goods and end products. First, they should work with the government and make sure that they seek financial assistance so that they can be able to get their hands on quality raw materials and purchase adequate machinery. Secondly, the engineering industries should make sure that they come up with initiatives that will make them adopt modernization. Technology is the essence of modernization, and the industries involving technology will have a better chance of acquiring capable machines that will ensure quality production.
For instance, Artificial Intelligence is the technology trend right now. Robots will correctly apply in the engineering industries, especially in the metal industries. Metal industries usually involve working under extreme temperatures, and some other times it is not very easy for human workers to work efficiently. If robots are introduced, they can be able to withstand the temperatures hence increasing the rate of production in the industries. Therefore the government should come through and help these industries by regulating their policies so that industries will be able to get financial assistance quickly from the banks and other investors. Adopting new technology is a robust procedure that involves spending a lot; if these industries can get access to enough capital, it will be accessible to technology in the future. This way, engineering industries having difficulties in receiving orders will have to solve the problem to a more significant percentage. Artificial intelligence will increase the production rate to a significant level that will facilitate faster growth of the industry.
