Progressivism
Part three of the article “Progressive Movement (1890s-1920)” explains about the paradigm shift. The article further explains that progressivism is turned from the essential precept that was dear to the founding fathers. The American colonists’ main aim was to fight for the opportunity to qualify for political posts and sanctions (The Open Courses Library, 2019). The American people had the main objective of pursuing happiness. The primary goal of progressivism is parity of outcome. The article insists that the wealthy are rich, while not all poor people are jobless and lazy.
The main idea of the article is hard work and communism among Americans. Chiefly, Benjamin Franklin encouraged the American dream by telling people to work hard (The Open Courses Library, 2019). The communism idea is through Thomas Jefferson advocating for public policy by the transfer of resources from the wealthy to those living in poverty. However, contrary to the concept of communism income taxes on the poor makes progressivism hard. Notably, someone may work hard and they will remain poor.
I agree with the concept of hard work, but the idea of communism is quite swayed. Hard work should be the backbone of every country and the philosophy of every citizen. Through hard work, people can get things that they desire and cases of theft and murder reduce drastically as one is in a position to afford their needs (The Open Courses Library, 2019). Although hard work does not always pay, I still believe that it will pay someday as one appreciates what they have. The idea of Thomas Jefferson to transfer resources from the rich to the poor encourages laziness (The Open Courses Library, 2019). I think that capitalism is a better idea than communism as one needs to work hard to get things.
