Project communication
Question 1
The case study presentation has clearly stated how the project was carried out and its findings. The slides are direct and easy to understand. From the presentation the project was successful even though they experienced some challenges. They experienced many scientific discoveries and had published thousands of the research paper. The slide on performance showed how each team got to work on different responsibility and their outcome. Even though the Goddard flight space center had other project, they were already working on, they agreed to provide support to the marshall as they led the project. Therefore, the presentation showed the essential details of the project.
The project seemed to be time-consuming because, according to the technical challenges they experience, they were not easy to repair and correct; hence the project was lengthy. The estimated budget was lower than the actual cost. This means that they experienced changes while doing the project. The two teams also had a difficult time working together, their communication was weak, and they competed to outdo each other.
Questions 2
When I was involved in a project, oral communication and written communication techniques were more effective. With written communication, a person is able to use it for future reference in case they need to confirm important information. It is also suitable for long-distance communication, and a person has the time to think, react or give then necessary feedback since sometimes people are not always in the same working environment. Oral communication is accurate, and a customer or employee can provide their feedback immediately, which is helpful in regards to the project and effectiveness. Efficient listening technique on the other can be distracting because as some is concentrating on the speaker, they also have to think of a response which makes them lose focus on what is being said. Using collaborative tools is advantageous for an organization because it increases the productivity of the employees by minimizing delays and friction because there is more communication between them.
Question 3
I worked in a business that had a functional structure. It was a small business and was divided into small departments that had their specific roles. The good thing about the organization was that employees were grouped according to their skills function and that made it easy for us to work together and focus on accomplishing the roles of the department.it encouraged specialization. The downside of this kind of structure was that the departments had very few interactions with each other and communication on rare occasions because most debates and discussions were held at a managerial level among the separate departments. When two departments were put on the same project, problems were always emerging because they both had different expectations and information about the project. Besides, because the employees are grouped according to their skills, there is no room for them to develop various skills and grow in other departments; hence the company might get stuck thriving only by the employees’ job function.
Question 4
I have experienced agile in the place of work, and it made a significant improvement in regards to the project we were working on. The project manager created an agile method of keeping prioritized backlog on a board. There was a time where they did not have an understanding of how the employees how and when the employees were going to receive training. The agile method helped people to decide what they had to prioritize and start working. This was done after the shareholders had a meeting and discussed what project to work on and their urgency.
