Resilience

Resilience is the ability of a person to mentally or emotionally cope up with an adverse condition and return to the previous normal status or more energetic than before. In this situation, the person is not knocked down by any difficulty and failure in life due to experience exposure. Resilience is usually considered as a process rather than the trait possessed by an individual. The resilience process is impacted and promoted by many factors (Norbury, 2019). This process takes mental activities to escape from hardship for the achievement of life goals. This paper intends to thoroughly analyze the impacts of the belief system, values, and worldview on the resilience process and the resources utilized for the promotion of the resilience process.

Many people around the world have different religions that they adhere to for the sake of their spirits and soul. They usually participate in the religion-based event, and this has been proven to have sound effects on the mind and body. The following are the various ways the beliefs have impacted the process of the resilience of an individual.

Beliefs raises the self-esteem of an individual

Peoples that have strong beliefs and very religious tend to have inclined self-esteem and will have better psychological adjusting than non-believer. The spiritual benefits are mostly enjoyed by the people in countries where religion is considered to be vital and is widespread (Yeung & Martin, 2020). An increase in the esteem of an individual in an adverse situation is a part of the resilience process and will enable the individual to cope up well to normality.

Reduction in anxiety

Any belief soothes anxiety possessed by an individual. Religious people usually relieve their anxiety by just thinking about their creator, meaning that they fall back in their faith to deal with life drawbacks and setbacks gracefully.  If a person can deal with an adverse situation, the resilience process is in progress. This trick does not apply to atheist people.

Lowers depression

Cultural and religious beliefs will better the depression recovery process of a person in a difficult situation. Faith in a caring and protective God will improve the treatment of a depressed individual.  This recovery process is triggered by the fact that a particular supreme being care. Social support from religious communities usually provides support and help to people with an existing difficult situation. For churchgoers, the spiritual support offered at the churches enables the victims of the financial crisis and stress to cope up with a straining situation. Churches will try to compare one’s difficulties with an event in the holy books to try and console and increase the level of hope and optimism, expanding the meaning and the purpose of life to those individuals.

Enhances meditation process

The meditation process is a practice that is believed to have an impact on the outcome of the resilience process. A time that is spent by a person meditating, especially among the Buddhists, encourages the psychological mindfulness that will yield a positive influence on the health of the believer. Spiritual meditation has a more substantial impact on the resilience process as compared to other secular meditations. Spiritual meditation will decrease migraine headaches associated with stress, depression, and anxiety. Also, this meditation process will increase pain tolerance and the well-being of a person.

Increase in the psychological well-being

Having a spiritual worldview increases the mental well-being of an individual. This worldview includes aspects like meaning, transcendence, and the purpose of life. Worldview reflects the sense of life meaning, peace, and harmony as indicators of good quality life. Purpose in life is the best coping mechanism for people diagnosed with chronic illness. It usually acts as habituation to pain stimuli. This worldview aspect offers the motivation of overcoming pain or increase the adaptability of an individual to cope up or adapt to stressful situations. Generally, the spiritual beliefs and worldview act as a stabilizing and an integrating force that offers the life challenges interpretation framework by providing the skills that offer the methods of coping up with trauma and concentrate on essential matters in life.

Family members should encourage life challenged individuals to create new goals and make forward actions. Big goals can be broken down into small achievable targets. The setting of goals will help in enhancing the willpower of an individual (Sicinski, 2020). When challenged in life, individuals should become problem solvers by creating recovery goals and adhering to each of them.

Enhance the establishment of strong connection

Traumatized people should have a committed social network for them to get the support necessary for resilience. Stable social connectivity will attract the most reliable and caring people around that will offer the best advice and motivation. These people will also help in cheerleading for reassurance purposes during tough times.

Encourage optimism

High levels of confidence generally increases the chance of full resilience. Confidence encourages the expectations that good things will occur in the future. Confidence will reduce the sense of hopelessness and the taking of constructive action. Encouraging people to be optimistic will enable traumatized individuals to lay off the burden in their shoulders and retain the previous healthy condition.
