Proposal for Affordable Housing Development Project
The following is an outline for the proposed community development project on affordable housing. In the recent decade, the residents of Sudbury town have experienced consistent housing changes that have not rhymed well with the change in demographics. With the rise in population, the residents of the city have been facing challenges accessing quality homes, especially those of low-level incomes; this has prompted the local authority in the town to purposefully adopt a development scheme that will help curb the challenges of housing and offer solutions. The plan encompasses many developments and units that will facilitate housing of over 1000 households.
The project has adopted the Smart Growth concept in the achievement of effective housing plans, which takes into account all social, economic, and environmental needs ensuring a sustainable development plan. The main goal of the project is to create an excellent affordable housing throughout Sudbury with sustainable approaches that will promote development. With the overall target of setting up over 1000 homes by 2022, the plan comprises of affordable rental homes, energy-efficient homes, ownership homes, and age-friendly homes. Following the Smart Growth approach, the scheme will integrate mixed land use, compact design, and create multiple housing opportunities while developing the existing neighborhoods.
The proposed development is set to take place in a medium-density residential zone located off Lasalle Boulevard and next to New Sudbury Public Library. With the positive feedback elicited by the residents and community, the proposed project is likely to be successful in providing long-lasting housing solutions.
