Water is an essential element in life, even more than food. Scientist says that 75% of the earth is covered by water, but only about 3% of the percentage is suitable for drinking. In the current years, there has been water scarcity in the arid and the polar regions of the earth. In the Polar Regions, the water has frozen, making it difficult for the people living there to access drinking water and some to run their machines and industries. The arid areas, on the other hand, have experienced high temperatures, which has, in turn, created drought and famine due to lack of rainfall. Therefore the engineering industries have had a rough time managing the situation of water shortage by finding ways to generate clean water and making it accessible to the general population.
In the drylands, the engineers have invested in digging and drilling wells to generate water for irrigational and drinking. In the Polar Regions, the engineers are finding ways to melt down the ice to produce water. In both situations, the engineers are in the quest to generate enough water. The process is a costly and cumbersome process at the same time, but the engineers are trying their best to curb this situation.
This is a huge problem facing the engineering industries because they lack resources and support. Mostly the support from the government is very minimal; this is the reason why engineering projects have been left in the middle. Financial support for acquiring more resources is what is needed by the engineering industries. In completing the quest to generate more clean water, the engineering industries have to receive all the support it needs. In some instances, we find that non-governmental organizations are the ones that step into combine forces with the engineering industry to solve this problem, but this rarely happens. Reading about this problem triggered a memory of a film documentary I watch about the life of people in the Sahara desert. The people living in this region depend on water from the oasis, which is hundreds of kilometers away from where they live. After reading about this problem, I came to understand why the engineering industries are the only ones that can be able to help solve this situation for not only the people in deserts but also for those in the Polar Regions. The engineers have to come up with ways that will facilitate the generation of clean water to prevent more deaths caused by a lack of freshwater.
It is not that the entire world is running short of clean water, but some regions have no access to clean water at all. On the other hand, some countries, especially those in Central and southern Africa, have clean water in abundance. Engineers, therefore, must find a way to channel water from areas with plenty of water.
If the process of channeling water to the dry areas is difficult or impossible, then engineers should consider desalination. The volume of the water in the ocean constitutes a more significant percentage of 75% of the entire earth. The problem comes in because saltwater is not suitable for either the human or plants. Therefore, the engineering industries are left with the mandate to find a way to generate clean water from the ocean. Desalination is the only process that will ensure the goal of producing clean water is reached. However, some obstacles prevented the engineers from accomplishing tasks such as lack of financial support, the lack of resources.

This paper has highlighted the issue of providing clean and accessible water for the population that cannot access clean water. The author begins by stating the importance of water to human life and how it has caused more deaths than wars. This way, the author was trying to show the audience how water is an essential element for life. While reading the introduction to this problem, I began to reflect on why water is referred to as life. In our daily activities we tend to use water in many ways, such as cleaning, drinking, watering animals, cooling machines, and watering plants. Having to think of a situation where there is no clean water entirely in the world, then this means that there is no life.
The author goes further and mentions how engineering industries are being affected by the shortage of clean water. They are the industries that are responsible for coming up with solutions of how to generate more clean water that will be able to sustain humanity for a long time. In fulfilling this task, the engineering industries should have the necessary resources. When I say the essential resources, I mean support from the government and the other non-governmental organization. If they provide the essential equipment and finance, the engineering industries will, without a doubt, manage to generate clean water. However, the engineering industries have lacked this support, and therefore they are facing difficulties in solving this problem.
According to my thoughts, I think the author is right in mentioning that this is one of the major problems that the engineering industries face. After understanding the argument that the author was trying to point out, I came up with a conclusion that wraps up this problem. The lack of resources and financial assistance are the major factors responsible for this problem. After reading about some of the other engineering problems, I have noted that if financial aid is a common factor among them. If the engineering industries receive the necessary financial assistance, I am sure that they will solve their problems by half.
Importance
In the future, or in trying to solve the problem of engineering industries having difficulties in providing clean water, initiatives should be put down. One of the initiatives is providing financial support to the engineering industries. Financial support can be given by the government of the country or the non-governmental organizations. If the government of the state decides to provide the support, this means that they will provide policies that will enable the engineering industries to access loans from banks. Another way will be through the inclusion of the engineering projects on the budget. With enough finance, the engineering industries will be able to pay the contractors and workers responsible for the projects.
Another initiative is providing the necessary resources for the engineering industry in conducting the project. Resources include machinery, transport, labor, and equipment. All these resources are essential in one way or another because they are dependent on each other. For instance, transportation is needed by engineers to transport employees, equipment, and machinery. If the engineering industry receives both financial support and the provision of resources, then there is no doubt that they will get rid of this problem.
