Psychiatric Care and Mental Health in the Community

Question one

Mental health refers to people’s cognitive, emotional status, and behavioral well-being in the community that involves how individuals feel, behaves, and think. According to surgeon general 999, mental health entails any diagnosable psychological distress that is evidenced by the change of behaviors, thinking, and impaired functioning. Through mental health, people recognize their abilities and potentials to cope effectively with normal stresses and work productively to contribute to the environment. There are varieties of factors that affect our mental illness, such s cultural differences, competing professional theories, and subjective assessments (Barry, 2019). However, community mental illness focuses on people’s deficits and disabilities and also their strengths and aspirations. For instance, the concept of stress occurs when an individual is unable to cope with life situations, goals, and challenges; hence, each deals with stress differently. Therefore, community mental health should be adequately addressed s the individual daily life, physical fitness, and relationships are affected.

Promotion of community mental health is n essential strategy that is essential in making a positive impact on the mental health of a special population. Practices and actions are taken re expected to develop programs and procedures to create and support environment and living conditions for people with such disorders. Through the promotion of mental health, people with special needs will be able to adapt and maintain healthy lifestyles to cope with different situations through their lives (Fauman & Hopkinson, 2010). However, community mental health promotion tends to increase political and social awareness on the importance of prevention to promote healthier lifestyles involving nutrition and exercise. It also provides interventions in each stage of development to identify the disorders in early age and minimize the risk among people. Therefore, through the promotion of mental health, the effect of illness will reduce as a special population will adopt lifestyles that they can cope with their situations.

Question two

There are varieties of factors that are associated with mental illness that affect the well being of many individuals. Some types of mental illnesses are linked with the biological factors that involve abnormal functioning of the nerve system and pathways to connect various regions of the brain. Infections such as streptococcus bacteria facilitate brain damage and the construction of mental illness, hence worsening the conditions of people (Bolton, n.d.). Brain injury is also a factor that is caused by defects to a particular region of the brain, thus causing mental illness. Moreover, other biological factors associated with mental illness include genetics, prenatal damage, substance bus, and factors like exposure to toxic and poor nutrition.

Social factors affect psychological well-being and influence mental illness among many people. Factors such s gender, social class, social background, race, and ethnicity are mostly associated with causing mental illness.  Individual demographic and socioeconomic factors expose many individuals to risk factors for mental health disorders. These include lower socioeconomic status, adverse life experiences, food insufficient, lack of support, and lack of power younger age, lower job satisfaction, and loneliness. Moreover, political factors such s violation of human rights and the occurrence of political wars re also associated with mental illness s the people’s conditions re altered due to lack of peace and unity in the country. Thus, both social and mental factors need to be addressed adequately to promote the welfare of citizens.

Question three

Evidence-based treatments for mental disorders seek to identify and modify barriers to the challenges affecting the patients, organization, and treatment strategies. Psychotropic medication management plays a significant role in the treatment process for an individual with mental l disorders (Evidence-based Psychological Interventions in the Treatment of Mental Disorders: Literature Review, 2010). They include Stimulants Antidepressants antipsychotics mood stabilizers and antianxiety agents that tend to correct and reduce the mental disorder effects on individuals and improve their health conditions. For instance, psychotropic medication is utilized depending on the situation of a person such s a stress effect to determine the appropriate prescription like the use of mood stabilizers. However, it works by changing the way chemicals present in the brain sends a message between brain cells to target specific disorders.

Community case management refers to the coordination of community-based services by a group of people to provide quality mental health care to the particular population. The goals of case management are to promote coordination, collaboration, providers of services, and communication skills to deal with mental illness disorders. Moreover, crisis intervention is a procedure that provides immediate support to people who are experiencing physical, behavioral, emotional, and psychological distress. The goals of crisis intervention are to develop sustainable techniques that re necessary to lower one’s guilty, anxiety, tension, and provide health support. For example, counseling is a way of helping an individual to deal and cope with mental illness. Therefore, all evidenced-based treatments are designed to promote and support the well-being of individuals.

Question 4

Mental health nurses play a significant role in the community to help individuals affected by mental disorders to cope with their conditions. They are responsible for planning and offering help and medical care to people with mental health distress. They work as team assist individuals with issues like anxiety, depression, and addiction problems through visiting the affected t home or in hospitals. Moreover, nurses help patients with cute conditions to develop a relationship and respond effectively to emotional needs. Their work is to administer patient’s medications and appropriate treatments to help in solving their mental disorders. Mental health nurses interact with families and patients to offer support and advice on different patient’s conditions (“Domestic violence and the role of community nurses,” 2016). Therefore, mental health nurses should be supported well s they play a crucial role in helping the patients deal with their mental health distress.
