Psychology Principles And Ethics

Introduction

According to ethical codes and standards of a psychologist’s article, the ready can understand how psychologists and caregivers need to behave. The article has outlined both the principles and the ethical codes that a psychologist should follow. The principles include; respect to human rights and dignity, justice, integrity, Beneficence and Nonmaleficence and the principle of fidelity and responsibility. A violation of these principles is said to be unacceptable and can lead to poor results during an assessment. In addition, the ethical codes of a psychologist are outlined in the article. The psychologist is supposed to work and act competitively, make quality assessments, work within human relation guidelines and uphold education qualities.  This discussion will focus on a scenario where clinician conducts tests under unfavourable conditions without considering the needs of a patient. Also, the clinician is said to carry out tests without reading the instructions and has employed unqualified employees. The discussion will analyze the code of ethics violated, how the issue can be solved, and if it’s the only factor that can influence results.

The principles and the ethical codes violated

For this scenario, we can see that the clinician is messing up with various ethical standards that should be followed when dealing with patients. Firstly, the principle of human rights and dignity has not been observed. The caregivers understand that they have a right to respect human dignity irrespective of their educational background. The patients are supposed to receive care under favourable conditions. Therefore, subjecting patients to unfavourable conditions is undermining their dignity and lack of respect. Secondly, the clinician has failed to uphold fidelity and his responsibility as a clinical psychologist. According to this principle, the psychologist should professionally uphold conduct, clarity their obligations and professionally shape their behaviours. The psychologist should work and cooperate with others to serve the interests of the patients and offer them quality outcomes. From this scenario, we can see that the clinician lacks professionalism in the way he conducts his duties. We can see that he barely cooperate with other employees since he doesn’t even read the instructions when carrying out the tests. You will find most of the results from the tests are wrong due to poor working conditions and failure to follow instructions. Beneficence and Nonmaleficence principles state that the psychologist should act in a way that the patients and the people around them are not hurt. The scenario of the clinician doesn’t engage in matters that save a life; instead, he gets involved in actions that make it unfavourable for the patients.

There are codes of ethics that have not been observed by the clinician in this facility. Firstly, the field of psychology requires that the psychologist delegate duties to employees who are competent in a particular area. From this case, we can see that the clinician lacks competent, ethical standards when recruiting and delegating duties. The employees are not well trained, and most of them are unqualified for the job. This is evident that the results will be not reliable since guidelines are not followed. This scenario also violates the ethical code of human relations that states that psychologists should not engage in actions that violate human rights. Finally, the assessment process has been compromised since the procedure used to collect results is not right. This violates the code of ethics that requires the psychologist to be ethical when carrying out a test, use the right materials and procedure for quality results. Therefore, this clinician is not fit to deal with patients since he causes more harm and damage to health. Patients need to be treated in a conducive environment that doesn’t irritate them or cause any disturbance.

From the above analysis, I can conclude that the various violations named have a major impact on the patients, and they need to be addressed. Firstly, violations of human rights to be the most violated principles in the scenario. It doesn’t only apply with clinical psychologists only, but it is an issue that is committed by many caregivers. In psychology, the psychologist is required to put the interest of patients before theirs. This is necessary because their roles are to save lives and offer healthcare pieces of advice to the patients. Violation of human rights is punishable by law and should be avoided at all costs. The other issue of incompetence is an issue that affects service delivery. Hiring and delegating duties to employees who are not qualified will lead to poor results and assessment because the right procedures are not followed. This becomes a threat to the patients since their needs are not appropriately addressed. A psychologist should work with other professionals in the facility to help in delivering quality service a failure to which will lead to poor results. Professionalism is another issue that has been prevalent in this scenario. It is an issue that doesn’t only affect psychologists but affects people across all professions.

There is a need to ensure that these violations do not continue to be violated by the clinician. To address these issues, the community needs to stand against such behaviours. I would urge the community to be served in that particular facility to air their company to the humanity department organization. The government should also create policies that protect patients’ rights from being violated by psychologists. Most will argue that the policies exist, but the question is how many people make follow-ups to ensure they are followed. A psychologist who is found capable of violating such ethical standards and principles should pay a heavy price to ensure that others learn from it.

I affirm that the ethical challenges, in this case, the validity of the case presented. They are enough for a patient to complain concerning how the psychologist treats them. There is no excuse that one can provide for employing incompetent workers. This is a way of risking human life which is against the principles provided in the article. The issue about assessment raises another issue about the results generated and the treatment to be issued. This makes the case to be more reliable since one can argue based on poor diagnosis and treatment. The patients can claim that they were subjected to poor environmental factors that made their health worse than before. According to the mental healthcare system, the patients should be placed in a serene environment that will help them recover quickly. Then one making this case should also consider the mental conditions of the clinician and whether he performs the duties under substance abuse.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, principles and code of ethics in psychology should not be ignored by psychologists. They are basics that determine the quality of work one delivers to the patients or clients in other fields. A qualified psychologist should adhere to all given principles and ethics. The government and psychology should come up with strict policies that will ensure that psychologist adheres to these principles. A psychologist comes across very tough scenarios that might make them act unethically, but it is vital to ensure that these factors do not take away a career. Psychologists are urged to be unethical only during emergencies, and after that service delivery goes back to normal.
