“Race” is a social concept, not a biological reality
Race can be defined as the grouping of human beings according to shared social or physical qualities into distinct societies. Jefferson Fish, in his article “Mixed Blood,” uses various ways to demonstrate the fact that race is a social concept and not a biological reality. First, he uses the concept of race as an immutable given right. He states that race is just a social classification, but not a biological reality. He goes further and states that people can be categorized based on their body type rather than their skin color (Jefferson, 2016). He proves this by stating that human beings are of the same species, which implies that people from different ethnicity, different geographical areas can mate and produce a fertile offspring.
Secondly, Fish demonstrates that there is also a classification of race according to a biological basis. This classification identifies people based on their skin color rather than body form and other variables. Body form and skin color don’t differ from each other. Last, Fish demonstrates the concept of race using the cultural dimensions of people (Jefferson, 2016). All human beings are biological entities, and whether an individual is black or white, this exemplifies how different cultures classify individuals according to race.
The responsibility of white students
Responsibility of white students from Arizona University in the MLK black party was to sever ties with the Tau Kappa Epsilon. Whites students also wanted the fraternity in the should be banned since they did not recognize it as part of their life after TKE was put in probation (CNN, 2014). Therefore, the students wanted the system to be changed and to fit with their expectations.
University response and consequences of the students involved
The response from the university was sufficient enough since the official took the right measure and suspended TKE after participating in a party that expressed racism through their clothing. In addition, further measures of action or measures were to be taken after the investigation was done. The consequences of the students who participated in the party were yet to be determined since the investigation for their action was underway (CNN, 2014). Therefore, it hard to predict the kind of punishment that the students will face after disciplinary action is taken.
