Moliere: Tartuffe Act 1-6
According to this work, has challenged me whereby the characters in the story belong to the same family but differ in their arguments. Madame Pernelle is advising her family members, and she is somehow absurd and discriminative. According to my experience, it is not to point out someone’s character in the presence of other people. Also, Madame needs to have reliable sources before she makes her judgments on Damis and the rest. Mademe Pernelle praise to Turtuffe indicates that she is the only person praising the man others are hating. I have learned from the play that the audience can determine the people on the right side. The woman complains of the grandson, the daughter in law and the maid of materialistic and poor behaviors and praises a man whose behavior is bad as per the majority. I have learned that people with old age sometimes make wrong judgments. The artist’s effectiveness can be evaluated through the delivery of the expected message. The artist has successfully delivered the message and through many themes and characterization of characters herein.
Coleridge: “Christabel” (pages 82-99)
Coleridge is the author of the poem Christabel whereby he focuses on the traditional roles and responsibilities of a woman in the society. The act of rescuing the kidnapped woman by christabel challenges me about the humanity I have towards other people. Christabel can be said to be humane enough to risk hosting a stranger. On the other side, the act of the kidnapped woman is contrary to the love shown by Christabel. The kidnapped woman’s action made me expand my experience on assisting strangers and their kick back. The woman as seduced both the daughter and the father. It is not all strangers need help besides our love for humanity according to this poem. The effectiveness of the work can be evaluated in the style the author is arranging the poem in the chronological manner. Firstly he shows us love for humanity and secondly the inner meaning of assisting as stranger and trusting unknown people.
English Romantic Poetry
In the poem, when we two parted, the poet Byron speaks about two people in love who have been in love for a long period. The two have separated. The break up as come with the consequences wherein the other does not want to hear even the name of his lover. The poem enlightens me that even the lovers do separate. Love has a beginning and an end. The end can be bitter than the beginning. In his poem the Girl of Cadiz, the poet also talks about how the girl fall in love. Again, the poem she walks in beauty is a love poem that involves a girl in love. The poet has confirmed that even lovers part ways when they disagree. The artist is effective in that he has used the rhythm that rhymes with message of the poem. Also, the tone of the poem communicates the bitterness in the heart.
The author of the eves of St. Agnes, Keats, and “When I have fears that I may cease to be” is the period when the romantic time was dominated by war. Lovers were fearing that they can be separated from their lovely ones by the war. In the poem Edgar Allan Poe, “Annabel Lee” the author talks about the love at the kingdom sea whereby she fall in love with a child Annabel Lee. She loves him and he also loves her. Later Annabel passed on but their love is still alive. Their love is beyond the ordinary love. In these poems by Keats, the author majors on love matters and he has thought me a lesson of love. Love can go beyond expectations. The bond between two lovers is strong and cannot be broken by either death or any other factor as it is the case with Annabel Lee and the case in the poem of the fears that I may cease to be. The poet has embodied literary styles to make the poem effective. Such styles include, similes and alteration and repetition.
In the poem Bronze Horseman by Pushkin, the poet has employed irony in communicating the message. The title of the poem is also ironic. Also, symbolism is widely used by the author. The floods in the desert is an ironical statement. The love theme has been explored by the author in length. The poet has opened my eyes beyond the ordinary language that poets do use. My experience about love and its relation to nature has been boosted through this poem. The author has successfully delivered the message through irony and symbolism as the major effective measures.
Conclusion
In conclusion, literature is the mirror of the society. The artists use many effective ways to communicate their intended message to the targeted audience. Poems, novels and songs have been the favorable mode of communicating the artistic work to the community. The major target group is the youths in many artistic works.
