Do you think D-town farm is an example of pre-figurative politics? Give an example of how from White Chapter five
D-Town farm is pre-figurative politics because DBCFSN members are dealing with farming as a strategy for political changes as Monica states. The members hope that taking part in farming will influence workers to understand the need to control collective resources as a community. The strategy enables oppressed persons to talk freely. The DBCFSN organization creates a chance for people to shape new programs, including participation in governance (Monica, 128). I believe is a means of creating independence and freedom among people living in Detroit thus Monica’s discussion makes sense..
What is a food policy council and what do they have to do with food access?
A Food Policy Council (FPC) should gather stakeholders from different community sectors who will examine the manner in which current food systems in the local community is functioning for people’s well-being and health. The stakeholders can then create policies such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to handle any arising issues. The Council ensures that people, especially poverty-stricken ones, can have easy access to food. Shellye Suttles being the Food Policy & Program Coordinator of Indianapolis and one of the stakeholders of FPC, should be aware about the reasons residents such as Ilene Loper, have not benefited from SNAP (Denoon, par.12).
What is one question you have about food policy in Indy for Dr. Shellye Suttles?
I would need to know whether Dr. Shellye has any plans to increase grocery stores and bus routes in the region because of the difficulty of residents to access food. Suttles should not only comment about the severity of the situation, but take action. Ilene Loper, one of the residents, claims that the distance between her house and the closest supermarket is two miles (Denoon, par.1). There is also need to understand if Suttles is supportive of the neighbors’ movement intending to raise the quantities of fresh foods.
