Reflecting on Values as a Writer and Thinker
Throughout this course, I have realized different perspectives held by people concerning the values I hold. People have different ways of choosing how to live and the behaviors that they choose to have. Personal values held by an individual always drive the judgment on whether or not a decision is right. Generally, personal thinking, beliefs, and behaviors are determined by the values held and believed to be right. My values realized during the course are desire to invest in personal development, and reliability, especially where teamwork is required while I learned to challenge myself towards achieving my dreams.
The writing experience has been on the larger part in line with my values, and the course has helped strengthen my values. Writing and thinking require an individual with a desire for personal development. At the beginning of the course, my writing abilities were not anything to go by. Although I have been a bright student throughout my time in school, the lack of self-drive had cost significant grades in writing. I was used to missing classes and failing to submit assignments on time. The low grades coming from such mistakes had negatively impacted my morale in writing, and I had begun to lose it until I enrolled for this course. One of my strengths that had been hidden by the lack of knowledge was the desire to invest in personal development. Generally, an individual who decides to invest in personal development will stop at nothing in pursuing their dreams. I came to realize my strength thanks to the various activities undertaken and the information provided, and I have been determined to learn every time. The desire to learn has, on the positive side, improved my thinking and writing since I no longer face difficulties coming up with ideas.
I have been forced on several occasions to challenge myself in a bid to keep my focus on benefitting from the course. At the beginning of the course, my passion for writing was not strong, and despite my writing ability, I was almost giving up. Reliability is one of the most crucial values of any writer. One has to improve their reliability both at a personal level and on their relationship with other people. Besides, most writers do not have supervisors and rely on their discipline to succeed. Therefore, I had to challenge myself concerning the need to improve my reliability right from the completion of assignments to adherence to deadlines. Therefore, I had to become a self-motivator and eliminate any need for supervision as that would portray me as an unreliable person. Also, I had to set goals with deadlines to improve my ability to win the reliability test that I had set on myself.
Self-sense and societal senses are some of the most difficult-to-change aspects in the life of an individual. Generally, individuals hold on to their values with the belief that they are positive. However, personal opinions are bound to change where an individual discovers better values and decides to leave their old self. One of the major challenges I met during the course was to change the sense I had held on the need for freedom. I had a misunderstanding concerning freedom as I used to view it a situation where I could live without straining to achieve goals that were beyond my level. Generally, I came to realize that I used to get confused between laziness and freedom. The course has, however, led me into realizing that no one has to force me to become a better person and that freedom can be used for the benefit of an individual. For example, the lack of limitations for highest level a writer can go means that an individual has the freedom to grow as much as they a willing to grow. Moreover, research might appear irrelevant until one finds a reason to engage in it.
Writing and thinking are aspects that prompt an individual to engage in research. The research skills acquired during the course are crucial in other fields and also in adding to my existing field of knowledge…..continued
