Reflection Discussion of End of Pathophysiological Course

            In particular, the attainment of the outcomes of the pathophysiological course has readied me to meet the various requirements of advanced nursing practice. This development places me in a path of providing quality care that is responsive to diverse patient needs. In this backdrop, this paper seeks to reflect on how the attainment of the course outgrowths has prepared me to meet the requisites of the increasing demand for quality healthcare.

Over the course, I have gained knowledge concerning the provision of care, which demonstrates high quality, safe, and patient-focused, based on holistic healthcare guidelines. Jasemi, Valizadeh, Zamanzadeh, and Keogh (2017) describe holistic care as a comprehensive form of care, whereby the entire needs of patients are catered for as a means of facilitating a full recovery. Some of the patients’ needs include educational, physical, and emotional needs (Jasemi et al., 2017). Besides physical needs, patients have a variety of needs, which have a significant effect on their recovery process. In the same vein, patient-centred care emphasizes a collaborative approach between a patient and healthcare provider in the delivery of care (Delaney, 2018). To this end, I have learned to attend to patients spiritual needs in that I respect their religious inclinations and go out of my way to provide spiritual books to patients.

Similarly, I have attained appropriate knowledge and skills in responding to the spiritual needs of patients by offering them meal choices that resonate with their religion. Likewise, I have learned to meet patients emotional needs in that I provide genuine care to patients by listening to their needs, maintaining eye contact while speaking to them, and conveying warmth and understanding to what they say. Similarly, I have attained the skills of providing holistic care in that I attend to patient’s social needs by linking them with patient groups, which meet regularly to discuss their experiences with various health conditions. Through these practices, I have realized that the provision of holistic care fosters patient satisfaction and enhances the quality of healthcare delivery.

Moreover, the attainment of the course outcomes has prepared me to address the requirements of the MSN program outgrowth, which is concerned with the background for practice from scientific and humanitarian fields. According to this construct, advanced nursing practitioners ought to incorporate scientific results from not only the nursing field, but also other specialities, such as public health, organizational sciences, genetics, and quality enhancement, among others (McCleary-Jones et al., 2014). The adoption of findings from these fields aims to improve nursing care across different environments continuously. For instance, I have achieved this outcome by gaining a better understanding of how public health policies are geared towards the control of infectious diseases. Similarly, I have attained this outcome through the incorporation of information on how genetics influence various medical conditions.

In addition, the accomplishment of the course outcomes over the eight weeks has prepared me to meet nursing practice core competencies, particularly on scientific foundation competencies. This nursing competency is concerned with critical analysis of data and evidence aimed at enhancing the quality of advanced nursing practice (DeNisco & Barker, 2013). This objective is achieved through the integration of knowledge from science and arts in the context of philosophical frameworks and science–inclined foundations of nursing. The competency also focuses on the translation of research and data to expect, project, and explain differences in practice. In this line, I have achieved this objective by understanding the role of behavioural science theories, such as the health belief model in the implementation of behavioural change interventions. Besides, I have learned to analyze findings from surveys and discern, which is valid to be adopted in evidence-based practice.

In conclusion, the attainment of the course outcomes has enabled me to meet the requirements of advanced nursing practice. The knowledge gained has prepared me to provide holistic care to patients. More importantly, the knowledge acquired has enabled me to incorporate the findings from different fields in enhancing care.
