reflection on a reading that explains critical thinking

Critical thinking is the ability of an individual to analyze and objectively analyze an issue before coming up with a conclusion or judgement. It is a character that has been cultivated over for a long time since the time of ancient Greeks such as Socrates. The skill used in many situations of judgement. One needs to consider all the facts that may have led to a situation before coming up with a rational judgement.  Since the beginning of education, there have been many changes in the culture of the people. One f the earliest changes was the adoption of religion into Greece and Europe.  The changes have led to the addition or change of perspectives when analyzing a situation. This paper is a reflection on a reading that explains critical thinking using examples and well-explained illustrations.

First, critical thinking is important due to different reasons. It is a measure f analysis f the systems of learning in the modern and ancient days.  The point, as explained in the article, is very logical based on the education system. The main importance of education is to ensure that people behave and interact in a civilized way. The use of critical thinking in analyzing the education system analyses if the aim of education is being reached. In a case when a certain aspect such as morality is not covered in education, then the system is not right. The quality of education is also explained by critical thinking. The idea is explained on the article using some of the previous systems of education. Giving students the ability to analyze a concept is the main objective of higher learning.  The paperbacks up the idea by research by Brigid Ballard. It states that when students come to university, they get more analytical skills that they use even after they are done with school.

THE paper further explains that critical thinking is learned by intuition, and therefore, many people do not have the correct vocabulary to describe it. The paper compares the arguments by Bourdieu and Helen Fox, saying that Bourdieu saw the process as a system of dispositions that are the determinants of class and power.  Oth arguments can be assumed t be correct since they are both applicable. A person with good critical thinking skills is likely to be of lower standards and class.  The idea is real since one’s decisions are the main determinants of the level that one is t in the community. People who make wrong decisions end up being lower standards.  The paper also argues that several definitions are confusing, such as the Atkinson idea. The argument seems to say that the higher levels of education are not only meant to impart social and cultural values but also create problems with the cultures of the learners.

Moreover, the article uses different perspectives to explain the meaning of critical thinking. It gives a summary of the two types of descriptions claiming that some are short statements that explain the concept of critical thinking. At the same time, others are long and taxonomic details that also have the same objective. It is clear at the end of the analysis that the main concepts of being rational, self-aware and ethical standards are prevalent. Modern-day descriptions can approve the idea of critical thinking. First, one has to be aware of themselves and the situation that they are judging. The tinking of the individual s to be straight and not clouded by feelings such as fear and anger.  A person who makes choices based on feelings and anger is likely to miss important aspects of analysis. They are also likely to favour one side of the situation instead of considering all the perspectives that the situation can be viewed.

Ethics are the moral standards that a certain culture has. They differ from one community to another, and what seems right to one community may be a crime in another. One should consider them before concluding since they determine if one will remain in the community or not. The paper also explains the steps taken in analyzing a situation. They understand the meaning of terms in the context. One should understand the language based on the setting of the situation. An excellent illustration is words like coke. In one situation, it may mean a soft drink while in another, it is a hard drug. A person should also look for ambiguity and check whether there are terms that contradict each other.  One should also try to understand the principles that led to the happening f a situation. The concept is true since the principles of operation are the core directives of behaviour.

Finally, the author analyses the generalizability of critical thinking. The paper explains that the critical thinking ability of man is based o their encounters and experiences. People who have had many experiences are more likely to have learned from them, unlike those with very few of them.  In conclusion, critical thinking is an important aspect of humanity. It is mainly taught in higher levels of education and is developed over time as one has several encounters. The skill is determined on the level of ethics, being rational and the moral principles that one has. The paper also explains that it is the basis of class of a person and the core determinant of decisions in any situation.
