Reflection on Learning strategy
Learning strategy 1: Textbook Notes
This learning strategy is not very effective for all learners in the classroom. Different learners have different learning styles, and this one only caters to one type of learner. The type of learner being accommodated by this particular method is the reading/writing learner. These learners are those that understand when they read and write about what they have learned. They mostly enjoy reading and writing assignments. Examples of the type of learners not catered for in this type of method are the visual learners, the auditory learners, the kinesthetic learners, and the interpersonal learners, among others. The level of boredom to be felt by these other types of learners will be high, and this means that they will not benefit. Also, textbooks use difficult language that is sometimes difficult to comprehend. Students may not benefit from reading and making notes from the textbook because students need further interpretation and demonstration to understand the concepts being talked about in the book.
Learning Strategy 2: Lecture Notes
The main problem of this learning strategy is that it does not incorporate the needs of all the students in the classroom. Some students understand well when other more interactive methods get used. However, when compared to the first strategy, it is much better. Lecture notes have been simplified. The professor often uses the language they feel the students can understand, meaning that students can understand the information in the notes without much strain. Also, lecture notes tend to focus on the essential things that students need to be aware of the meaning that they are often short and simple. The ease in which the students can understand the language used in the lecture notes makes it a more efficient method to use other than the use of textbook notes. Also, lecture notes incorporate ideas from many authors and textbooks while a textbook will only provide the insights of specific authors meaning that the use of lecture notes will help the students learn better than textbook notes can.
