Reflection paper: Experience Innovation Simulation
Introduction
A famous physicist by the name Albert Einstein asserted that as human beings, we could not continuously solve challenges using similar thought approaches we used when creating them. The globe is continually changing; for example, technology has rapidly evolved from that of the 19th century to modern-day technology. Even the way society was in the last centuries is different from the way it is. Therefore human beings are faced with the challenge of advancing their problem-solving approaches to cater to the needs in the contemporary world. Design thinking is an outlook that engages the human mind to come up with innovative solutions. It is a new and daring systematic, which is not a linear but a human-centered and a scientific methodology (Kumar, 2017). It will assist man to fundamentally revolutionize how he goes about investigating challenges and inventing answers to those challenges. The above paper seeks to look at the variations between design thinking and traditional problem-solving approaches in depth.
One of the distinctions between design thinking and traditional problem solving is that design thinking concentrates more on human needs than users. Organization and companies have now revolutionized their approaches towards creating products that humans need rather than putting their attention to developing products. This is because unlike traditional problem-solving processes that aimed to improve organizations and company products through value addition, design thinking approaches have made organizations and companies shift their design outlooks to human needs and experiences (Dam & Teo, 2019). The influence is due to individuals continually looking for new products they can identify and relate at a personal level. Innovative solutions need to be found, which can withstand the constant changing and massive interferences that affect Human Wealth, power, learning, sustainability, financial restraints, and political upheavals. The iterate design thinking mindset is naturally in me. Tim Brown from IDEO describes it as receiving constant feedback from customers. Stanford design school calls it radical collaboration, while Michael Luch from PDMA refers to it as cross-disciplinary and collaborative. Although they have different names, the meaning is the same. I believe in teamwork and teamwork does not necessarily mean the design team alone but also the consumers of the product or service. Iterate mindset allows for the consumers and other members to correct each other, give their concerns about the designed product. I believe in being corrected as it will help me to avoid a similar mistake in the future. Innovation will not stand out to require constant improvements. Collaboration allows for individuals from different settings and have different work experiences to give creative solutions to a problem (Design Thinking Mindsets for Human-Centered Design, Nd).
The approach which is most difficult for me is creative confidence. According to Tim Brown of IDEO, it is about turning imaginative ideas into reality. I am not a risk-taker and will not invest where my returns are not assured. Failing to be a risk-taker enables me to critically examine the situation and assess if I will be able to give a solution. If not, I will look the other way because I know that if I do most probably, the ideas will not work. If my instinct says no matter the creativeness, I adhere to it. Lacking creative confidence works for me because I will be able to keep my investing capital until I get something better where my returns are assured. Although some people are lucky and their daring brings them luck majority end up putting their money and energy in several different places that they cannot know which areas needed to be improved for the project to progress well. Many people end up disappointed and frustrated about venturing into new ideas. Companies led by such individuals may end up in bankruptcy, and ultimately instead of giving solutions to people’s problems, they end up creating even more challenges.
Career goals and paths are the scariest part of a working individual. However, having goals is the momentum that directs a person to work hard and smart to either get a promotion in the current workplace or a good recommendation letter to potential employers. I am to be the managing director of an airline. I look forward to working with big brands like Qatar Airways, which was voted the best airline in 2019. Being the manager, I will be tasked with discussing with the airline employees who oversee design certification, connection, and test and turn up, repairs of equipment plus other undertakings of the airline’s Repairs Department. I will assist in the improvement and implementing of the company’s strategies, systems, and procedures and ensuring that operational objectives are met. I hope to impact the company by maintaining the excellent record it has. I also hope to increase its destinations to over two hundred destinations, at the same time improving the delivery of services the airline offers. Launch new cargo destinations to the Americas. Improve profitability by giving promotional subsidized fares, which will ensure better sales by beating the competition (Kan, Chung & Chung, 2019).
I intend to use user observation as a method of design thinking. It will ensure that customer reviews are observed keenly to help us improve our service delivery. Besides, user observation will help know which flights are commonly used, therefore increasing the number of trips to such destinations, which will aid in increasing profit and reduce congestion (Kan, Chung, & Chung, 2019). Apart from just working on the airline, I will apply this design thinking to listen to the pleas of employees and ensure that there are free to have a social life. I intend to scrap off rules that allow for their termination due to pregnancy or getting married five years after being employed. It will help create a work environment for women to juggle between career and family since I believe in individuals being all rounded. There is also the work benefit, which comes with giving employees autonomy. They can be more productive and work for the improvement of the company. Design thinking approaches are what every organization that seeks to be relevant in the changing globe should aim to use. They will also help upcoming company leaders to apply innovation in their problem-solving skills.
