Representative Democracy
The role of a member of congress is best summed up as representation, legislation, political and electoral responsibilities, and also constituent education. A member of congress is expected to be the bridge between the constituents who elected him and the government. He or she is supposed to be involved in developing policies, laws, and legislations that help people represented. A member of congress plays the role of representation by looking out for the concerns and issues affecting his or her constituents. The member of congress has to understand what the voters need and want in their range of racial, socio-economic backgrounds, and ethnicities. That is, the people who voted in their senator or representative have to feel like part of the government through their elected leader.
If I knew I could get elected, i would want to be selected as a representative to the congress. Being a representative gives one a direct chance to serve the constituents by being involved in things that affect the ordinary person in the United States. Among other duties, a house representative’s roles include introducing bills and resolutions and also offering amendments. Most of these bills are aimed at making the lives of Americans better. Amendments are done to ensure that the laws and legislations available are for a better country.
