General Psychology I – PSY 101
- 20% RESEARCH, SERVICE LEARNING ASSIGNMENT, OR LIFE HISTORY RECORD
Topic: Review 3-5 research articles in a minimum length of five pages. Choose articles from a professional journal or periodical (not a magazine or internet site) that are approved by your instructor. You will need to access articles from the Auraria Library at http://library.auraria.edu from databases like PsycInfo and PsycArticles. After you have chosen your articles, review and critically evaluate each article for content, methodology, and application. Each article review must contain three (3) sections: first, a summary of the article read (content) and how it contributes to further understanding of the topic; secondly, an analysis or critical review of the article or study (methodology); and finally, the theoretical implications for individuals, families and society as a whole (application). All articles reviewed are subject to the final approval of the instructor. Paraphrasing the author’s work or the use of direct quotes must be cited in APA style. APA style utilizes the author-year citation system. In addition to the author and year, each direct quote must be followed by the page number in which the quote was taken in parentheses; i.e. Smith (2015) states, “The articles should be professional journal articles” (p. 93). Each article reviewed must be appropriately cited on a final bibliography page (entitled “References”). See APA Style.org.
All papers and projects must be in MSWORD format (except for the Life History Record, which is in PowerPoint) and they must be typed, double-spaced, have a 12 point font and 1 inch margins on all 4 sides (see APA style). The font must be Times New Roman and it must not be in bold face type. Points will be deducted for grammar, spelling, and word choice problems. Submitted papers must meet the purpose of the assignment. You will need to submit an electronic copy of your paper to the Assignments Folder on Desire2Learn. Hard copies and emailed copies of your paper will not be accepted. All papers will be scanned by TurnItIn.com for similarity detection. They are due on the date listed in the class schedule. They must be submitted in the “Assignments Folder” of Desire2learn on the due date and in the correct format or they will be considered late. Absolutely no late papers will be accepted. Missing papers will be assigned a grade of 0. DUE MONDAY 11/4/2019
If there are any discrepancies about the scoring of tests, the grading of written work, or grades in general between the student and the professor, they must be addressed within 5 class days of having an assignment or test grade returned to the student.
