Response Workplace Environment Assessment
The Clark Health Workplace Inventory can be used to identify strengths and weakness areas in the workplace (Clark, 2015). The aim is to give better insight into how the workplace environment can be made more fruitful. Success, in this case, refers to how employees relate to one another at the workplace. Civility is an essential aspect of a positive and healthy work environment as it shows respect and concern (Edmonds, 2017). Based on the results of the test, you indicate that your company is moderately civil. The result is commendable though there could be room for improvement. You have also given an example of a civility scenario between you and a fellow nurse.
Communication is vital in any work setting. Communication, however, does not always yield the anticipated result, as is evident in the scenario. Despite letting the nurse know that their services would be required in the shift, the nurse was adamant about not working on the shift. Channels of communication exist to make communication more effective. In this regard, you used the channels of communication available to you. The result was, however, the same despite enlisting individuals with higher authority. Listening is a characteristic that creates a civil environment (Woodson, 2018). Listening to the nurse as regards reasons for the refusal to work in the shift would have probably resulted in a different outcome.
The nurse did not observe civility throughout the scenario. Practicing self-restraint and learning anger management skills, as well as considering the impact of words spoken, is one way of enhancing civility(“Ten Tips for Creating Respect and Civility in Your Workplace”, 2007). Lack of civility is likely to negatively affect the productivity and commitment levels of employees (O’Neal, 2020). To this effect, the nurse was terminated since the commitment level to the organization was deemed wanting.
