responsibility and its implications on the developing nations
People in both wealthy and developing nations depend on the natural environment for their livelihood. A well taken care of environment provides the necessities of life such as food, water, clean air, and shelter. The environment is a means to attain economic growth and fight natural dangers. Wealthy countries mostly obtain natural resources and labor from developing nations to meet their industrial demands. The process of obtaining these resources and labor ends up degrading the environment in the developing countries. The wealthy nations have a responsibility to the environment and the people of the developing countries where they obtain labor and natural resources. This paper will focus on this responsibility and its implications on the developing nations.
Global warming is a result of an accumulation of greenhouse gas in the ozone layer. Most of this gas is a consequence of excessive carbon gas that developed countries are producing from burning fossil fuels in factories and transport industries. The damage from fossil fuel gas emissions is felt by the developing countries, where the wealthy nations extract those fuels. It is, therefore, the responsibility of the developing nations to develop techniques of reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere as it is affecting the developing countries as well.
Environmental degradation in the developing countries due to pollution by the developed countries has led to deaths, poor quality of water, and exposure to toxic chemicals, among other effects. These conditions and diseases can be minimized if the wealthy nations, which obtain labor from these developing countries, will take responsibility. The wealthy nations have to prevent water pollution in the process of obtaining the raw materials for their manufacturing companies. In so doing, there will be a healthy population to seek labor from and a safe environment to keep on supplying the raw materials.
Wealthy nations should take on initiatives like “no harm” to the environment and the people of the developing countries where they obtain their labor. This initiative is to ensure that in the operations of the wealthy countries in the developing countries, they will not take part in any activities that may harm or degrade the environment. This kind of initiative will ensure that the multiple benefits of the environment to the people in developing countries is achieved. More labor will be available when the environment and the people in developing countries enjoy the benefits of a healthy environment.
The wealthy nations should also form slogans that aim at mitigating the risks that are related to the environment in developing countries. The risks that result from climate change, such as adverse weather conditions like drought and flooding, should be considered as a threat to the survival of humanity. It is, therefore, a collective duty of the wealthy countries to ensure that they support the developing countries where they source their labor from tackling environment-related risks. The tribulations that result in the environmental degradation of the people in the developing nations affect the wealthy nations to a great extent.
In conclusion, environmental conservation is a global affair that all countries should take part. Environmental degradation has effects that cut across the globe as a whole. Wealthy nations should not leave the developing nations to struggle with issues of environmental conservation alone. When the environment and the people in the developing countries are unhealthy, it means that the supply of labor and raw materials will be affected. All countries should be part of the environment integration programs that will help in the maintenance of the environment. It is, therefore, my view that wealthy nations have responsibilities to people and the environment of the developing countries, from which they obtain their labor.
