Review of Self-Assessment Tasks
Emotional Intelligence
Emotional intelligence is the ability to make sense of and manage your feelings and emotions, and those of people in your environment. It allows a person to take control of situations by considering how emotions are affecting their actions and those of others. I was able to score highly in this test because I answered the questions in a way that reflects my character. The experiment was designed to gauge how my behavior reflects my emotional intelligence. The questions required me to reflect on my behavior in the past and how I am likely to react if I was in a similar situation. Daniel Goleman (1996) suggests that five aspects are the most important to consider when measuring a person’s emotional intelligence. The five aspects are empathy, motivation, social skills, self-awareness, and self-regulation. I was able to demonstrate the traits of a highly intelligent professional by possessing all of these elements.
Since there were no right or wrong answers, I was able to consider my real feelings and answer the questions honestly. My responses indicated that I always know how I feel and how my emotions and actions affect those around me. As a professional, this allows me to understand my weaknesses and strengths. This helps to manage my actions and responses to changing situations. My responses demonstrated that I am able to work persistently toward my goals, which will contribute to my success as a professional. It is essential to understand how people around you are feeling at all times to predict their behavior. My responses demonstrated that I was capable of this through questions intended to investigate my empathy. I also demonstrated high aptitude in social skills by demonstrating that I am able to communicate efficiently with other people. This is important for any organization. All these values contribute to my efficiency as a professional. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Ethical Decision-making Skills
In this assessment, my ability to make sound decisions while considering their ethical implications was investigated. Hypothetical ethical dilemmas were presented along with possible courses of action. The way I responded indicated that I am able to make morally sound decisions by evaluating available information and consider how decisions I make will affect involved parties. My score showed that I was capable of this. Through my responses, I was able to demonstrate my potential to consider the values of my organization and use them to determine the best response in that particular situation. The assessment was also designed to check whether I possess the capacity to uphold the principles that an ethical professional should respect. Honesty, integrity, responsibility, leadership, trust, and citizenship are essential ethical principles for a professional to uphold at all times.
Because of my score in this assessment, I believe that I will remain aware of the moral situation at all times, which will enable me to make the right moral decisions throughout my career. My honesty will allow me to convey the right information at all times. I will consider my integrity in order to make sure I deliver on what I have promised and stood for what is right. Treating every one of my colleagues with dignity and in a fair way will also enable me to foster good relationships for me as a professional. This is the importance of respect. Because of my trustworthiness, colleagues will have confidence in my abilities, and I can maintain proper communication lines. My responsibility to be a good citizen will allow me to contribute positively to my community through the work that I do. Because I know that it is my duty to always communicate my legitimate concerns, I will help my organization avert problems and contribute to its growth.
Flexibility
According to Eugene Raudsepp (1990), every professional should be flexible in order to succeed. Scoring highly in this test shows that I am highly flexible as an individual. The assessment sought to investigate to adapt to different conditions and tolerate uncertainty. My responses showed that I am able to be an effective manager because I remain open to new information and change. I can alter my response appropriately to overcome the challenges I encounter in my line of work. The assessment looked at how I am likely to react to situations that are different from what I am used to and to view problems as opportunities to make adjustments. It provided an opportunity for me to reflect on my ability to make the best of a bad situation. It allowed me to reflect on how I react to change and new information.
My ability to be tolerant will allow me to situations that may appear inconvenient to me but which are unavoidable. This will enable me to accomplish any goals I set even when conditions are not ideal. It will also make me more likely to make adjustments to my practices to improve my efficiency when my abilities are not sufficient. My ability to take the initiative and be an active player will also allow me to become a force for positive change. Flexibility will contribute to my success as a professional by allowing me to identify opportunities, even in situations that are challenging. When managing people, I will be able to consider their abilities and adapt their responsibilities to be aligned with them. This will allow organizations to work more efficiently. I will be able to successfully create new systems and utilize available resources to maximize productivity. Flexibility will also allow me to remain competitive in a continually changing environment.
Conflict Handling
This assessment was designed to investigate how I handle myself in situations of conflict. I was able to demonstrate that I can successfully deescalate a situation and find alternatives to problems encountered. My responses indicate that I am capable of using different conflict-handling methods to ensure the smooth running of my organization. Questions were designed to test which method I would prefer to use for conflict resolution. The questions also checked if I am able to prevent conflict from occurring in the first place. Reflecting on conflict resolution allowed me to realize the importance of inclusivity in decision making to get everyone on the same page. This enhances cooperation and reduces the chances of conflict arising due to people feeling unseen. Conflicts can prevent me as a professional from carrying out my duties or achieving my goals (Dixit & Mallik, 2008). It is, therefore, crucial for me to handle all situations of conflict that I encounter.
My score indicated that I understand the dynamics of conflict and can successfully employ interventions to reduce both its incidence and its effects when it does occur. This will be useful to me as a professional because it will enable me to save time. By resolving conflict rapidly, I will increase productivity because I will reduce the amount of time invested in conflict resolution. I will be able to foster good relationships with my colleagues by avoiding conflicts. This will allow me to advance in my career. I will consider the room for creativity that is allowed in the organization I intend to work for. This will allow me only to reward it. Creativity improves efficiency and allows a business to compete better. The application of creative solutions will also let me deal with challenges in ways that maximize positive outcomes.
Appreciating Diversity
To be an effective manager, one has to be able to value and appreciate the attributes of others, which make them different from us. This is a moral and legal obligation for every manager in order to run an organization effectively. This assessment contained questions about how I respond to people who are different from me. My score indicates that I am equipped with the mindset that is necessary to appreciate diversity at the workplace and also in my personal life. The questions also investigate my ability to work with people who share values and beliefs which are different from mine and whether I can remain sensitive to the different needs of every individual. The assessment also allowed me to reflect on my previous actions and assess whether I responded appropriately to diversity. My ability to accept the views of others and tolerate or respect opposing views were also evaluated and found to be satisfactory.
My ability to accommodate opposing views will allow me to understand the motivation behind the actions of colleagues enabling me to respond appropriately. I will benefit from respecting differing opinions because it will allow me to consider alternative approaches to problems. I can benefit from the input of people from all cultures, enabling me to take advantage of the strengths of other everyone. I can maintain a healthy working relationship with all coworkers by avoiding actions that may be contrary to their preferences or cultural practices (Livesay, 1995). This will also prevent conflict and reduce legal action against my organization. I can be proactive in the prevention of discrimination at the workplace and prevent the underrepresentation of people from different cultures. Maintaining a diverse taskforce is essential for every business to compete favorably in different environments. My ability to value diversity will, therefore, contribute to my success as a professional.
Active Listening Skills
This assessment allowed me to consider my ability to make sense of what others are trying to communicate. I was required to recall my previous interactions with those around me and consider what my actions meant for me as an active listener. I realized that there were areas that I needed to improve when trying to figure out what colleagues are trying to communicate. The assessment allowed me to reflect on how distractions factored in when I am attempting to listen to other people. It investigated my ability to pay attention to the speaker and derive meaning from their expressions and word choice (“Self-Assessment,” 2020). My responses to the communications made to me by the other person were also evaluated. I realized the importance of patience during conversations.
I resolved to make use of active listening to make sure that I understand messages from other people without distortions. I should be able to resist distractions because they can interfere with the conveyance of messages. In doing so, I am able to effectively use the information that I acquire to make the required adjustments. Active listening will allow me to respond to the emotions of people around me because it enables a person to read people’s feelings from the way they communicate, for example, by considering word choice (“Self-Assessment,” 2020). I will also be able to resolve conflicts better by understanding the context of various situations better. Respecting other people’s opinions will allow me to foster trust and respect, allowing people to be honest and prevent them from being afraid to present their ideas fully. Learning not to interrupt others when they are trying to put something across will also improve the efficiency of communication. Keeping an open mind during conversations will also allow me to see new perspectives and make better decisions by considering a more extensive range of possibilities.
Creativity Assessment
This assessment sought to identify and respond to challenges in the workplace. It contains questions that require me to consider how I would react to various situations that require me to apply creativity. My score indicates that I am a creative individual and enables me to reflect on the ways in which I can better use my creativity to improve my efficiency. The assessment indicates that it is essential to consider designing tasks that take advantage of new technology to utilize the full capacity of the human resources available in an organization. It further states that creativity is essential for an organization to make use of creative solutions in order to remain competitive. Organizations can benefit from creating environments that allow workers to be innovative and apply new processes and methods to improve effectiveness.
Being a creative individual will allow me to advance in both my profession and personal life. I will be able to appreciate the different opportunities to apply new ideas by applying research and experimentation. In management positions, I will try to achieve better results by matching workers to responsibilities that are within their abilities so that they are not overwhelmed or underperforming. I will be able to incorporate new ideas into decision making and exploit new technologies to improve efficiency. I will be able to find organizations that respect my creativity and reward them. In this way, I can improve my productivity by implementing new processes that may be more efficient than previous ones. I will also integrate the knowledge that I have accumulated over time from different fields in order to come up with new solutions to problems I encounter in my line of work. Creativity can also enable me to identify market trends early and make adjustments which prepare my organization for adversity.
