Scenario for Challenging Work Situation

In Week 7, you will have a final paper due. In this paper, you will describe a challenging situation that has occurred in a place of work. After you have summarized the situation, you will then apply theories and concepts from the course content to explain and solve the situation. This assignment is part of that final assignment, where you will write the scenario and provide a list of the references you plan to use for your final paper

This assignment will include the following:

  1. Title page in APA format
  2. Summary of a challenging situation
  3. Reference list in APA format

Title Page

The title page must be in 6th edition APA format.

The title page must have a running head and page number. The title block should be in the top third of the page.[unique_solution]

Part 1: Description of Challenging Situation

If you do not have a challenging situation that you have experienced, you may use one that someone you know has encountered.

Avoid using personal pronouns (i.e., I, our, we). Even if it is your situation, use a fictitious name.

In this description, you must include the following:

o Workplace environment (i.e., type of business, how many employees, division in a business, etc.) – do not provide the real name of the business.

o   People involved in the challenging situation – do not use real names.

o Relationship between the people involved (i.e., co-workers, boss/subordinate, etc.) o Challenging situation (answer the questions who, what, where, how, and why)

o This part should be a minimum of 3 pages and should not be more than 6 pages in length.

Reference List

Provide a list of a minimum of 6 references that you will use for your final paper.

Only two of the references may come from Internet websites that are non-academic.

References that are not acceptable include class notes and Wikipedia.

Two of the references may come from books, Internet sources, newspapers, or magazines.

1

The other 4 of the references must come from professional research journals. These have to be quantitative research studies and you must discuss the purpose of the research, sample, method, results, and conclusion.

The journals may be found on the Internet; however, they have to come from professional research journals. I highly encourage you to use the Chapman library to find reputable sources.

Assignment Requirements

The paper must be double spaced with one inch margins on all sides. Use Times Roman 12 point font.

Please send the paper in Word format. If you do not have Word, you must send it as a text file. Note that you will may lose formatting if you have to do it this way.

The paper must be written in APA format (6th edition).

Hints for Writing Your Paper

Topic

You may not use a paper or a section of a paper that you have created in another class. The purpose of this assignment is to gain new knowledge about a topic.

Self-plagiarism is using your own work for more than one purpose.

Organization

Use your introduction to help set up an organization to your paper. Use subheadings to help organize your paper.

Citing References

Make sure you use citations throughout your paper. None of this should be your opinion. Ideas have to be cited as well as statistics and/or direct quotes.

Make sure that you reference who you are citing within the text of the paper.

Paraphrase the work of others and give them credit (when reviewing literature). In other words, do not plagiarize.

If you do not cite what you have paraphrased, this is considered plagiarism.

Do not copy large blocks of information from any source. Your instructor is more interested in reading how you interpret what you have read.

Quotations

Keep your biases out of the paper.

Use quotations sparingly. A rule of thumb is no more than one on a page.

Do not use quotations because you do not know how to paraphrase difficult material in results sections of research studies.

You should not have two quotations in a paragraph.

If you do copy anything word for word, quotation marks must be put around the words

2

you have copied. You must then cite the author, year, and page number of the source from which you took that information. If there is no page number, you must cite the paragraph number. Note that just providing this information with no quotation marks around the copied material is considered plagiarism (unless you have used a block quote).

Flow

How you say something is almost as important as what you say. In other words, the tone of your paper should be professional.

It is critical for your writing to flow well and have no grammatical errors. This is a formal paper. Do not write as if you are speaking.
