Self-Assessment
So far navigating through the course has not been smooth and my biggest challenge has been in accessing extra learning materials. Learning materials such as books, articles and journals are not easily available because they are limited compared to the large number of students. In order to maximize more benefits from the course, whatever we get from the lecturer need to be supplemented by information from other sources. The few available books contain old information and students need to be conversant with the current information. As we move forward, I would like to improve my English language both written and communicated. I am not good at grammar and hence I would like to improve my grammar by the end of the semester. We cannot avoid communication in our daily lives and therefore, there is a need to ensure that I perfect my communication skills. Additionally, I would also like to improve my writing skills like writing speed, spelling, grammar and proofreading. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
To understand and utilize the course materials effectively, first I need to be a regular visitor of the library. In the past half of the semester, I have not been studying from the library, and this has made me not to reap more from the course. In the library I will be able to access reading materials which I will utilize to further my knowledge. To understand the course effectively, I will also form learning groups and take advantage of group synergy. The best feature of the course is that it is more interactive, both from the lecturer and the students. The lecturer has been effective in involving the students through learning sections and has even made extra effort to provide evaluation forms in order to understand what has been interesting and what the students have not understood. The students have positively responded by being open in giving out their views about the course, and this has made learning interesting.
Learning in this course has been made easy by having a very informed and committed lecturer. The course instructor is equipped with a lot of knowledge and is able to offer practical and current examples to ensure students understand what the course entails. More interesting is that the lecturer makes a follow up at personal level to find out what each student finds to be challenging about the course and comes up with practical solutions to help the student overcome the challenges. The course lecturer is also committed in that he is always in class at the right time and does not condone absenteeism. Learning is made difficult due to insufficient learning materials. There are not enough course learning materials to supplement what the lecture gives in class. Learning materials help to supplement what the student knows by providing more examples and further knowledge.
If I would change anything about the course, it would be the content. Most of the content of the course is theoretical hence I would change this from being theoretical to being practical. The lecturer has tried to be more practical but it is not sufficient. Teaching is important since it helps students to remember what they were taught but involving them through practical examples is more important since it helps the students to learn and they are able to apply what they have learned in real life situations. As we enter in to the second half of the term, I would suggest you liaise with the management and ensure that we get more updated learning materials. Some students might understand better when they read on their own, and if they cannot access the learning materials it means they miss out the course, and by doing so you will have helped us a lot.
