Self-Reflection Exercise
In the workplace, I tend to be significantly political within the context of the organizational aspects and functions. The main reason behind this fact is as in the workplace, here are various individuals with various interests and views. Through being political, I get the ability o being able to efficiently monitor and evaluate the different capabilities of the multiple values held by multiple individuals in the workplace, either formally or informally. Consequently, I can balance the diverse views to ensure that that the ultimate result that I end up with is sustainable and efficient both in the process of job performance and the welfare of the employees. Despite being political in the workplace, it rarely affects my career progression. My engagement In the political exercises is in a way that respects the laws and regulations of the organization, consequently. They do not result in adverse outcomes. My political actions in the organization are based on positive political skills that entail the building of trust with my coworkers, exercising consistency and reliability, in addition to being aggressive. With the fact that the workplace environment is composed of individuals with diverse opinions and ideologies, it is inevitable to avoid workplace politics. In my career experience, I have to face negative political situations in the workplace where I felt that the environment presented conditions in which I had no power, and consequently felt that the environment presented a negative environment. Through the situation, the individuals expressing their views sought to be aggressive rather than being empathetic. The condition was characterized by the fact that one group sought to express their opinions through arguments. The use of arguments was exercised rather than through actions. The group was pushed by the urge to win and show their dominance. They sought to create a condition where the alternate group could not communicate their views. The group was unable to exercise flexibility both in thinking and expression, and instead were interested in dominating rather than seeking a common consensus with the rest of the colleagues through the entire incident, I felt helpless and frustrated, a factor that eventually affected my work productivity.
The main conflict handing style that I use when faced with a conflict is compromise conflict-handling style. Through this style, the conflicting parties attempt to reach a middle ground where the views and feelings of both parties are taken into consideration. Even though the requirements as set by a party may not be met entirely, the style is essential as it ensures that both parties the chance to express themselves and bargain to ensure that the most basic requirements are met. At the end of it, each party sacrifices a part of their need to ensure that a consensus is reached. this conflict management strategy has been essential the course of my career development and career practice to this instance. Through the work process, it is inevitable to stay away from conflicts. The development of effective ways of solving the disputes is, therefore, essential in ensuring that the conflicts do not cause adverse effects, both with colleagues and even the employer. The use of the compromise method of conflict resolution has been essential in positively serving my career as it provides a situation where the end of the conflict is a win-win circumstance that further promotes mutual coexistence with the initially conflicting party.
Bargaining is a necessary aspect in the process of attempting to achieve an objective in the work environment. Through efficient bargaining strategies, it is possible to create a compelling case that leads to the achievement of the desired goals and outcomes. For a continued positive corporation, bargaining should take a characteristic that favors all involved parties. The bargaining strategy to which I mostly identify is the integrative bargaining strategy. Through the integrative bargaining strategy, both parties seek to engage in a bargaining process that eventually ensures that both of the involved parties benefit from the deal. Rather than viewing the situation as a conflict where one party had to win at the expense of the other one, parties view the existing situation as a challenge that requires the creation of a consensus. The end of the bargaining process is the achievement of a common goal where both parties are satisfied. The integrative bargaining strategy virtually fit the conflict handling style. In practice, both the conflict handling style and the integrative bargaining style are focused on seeking to reach a common ground and a consensus to solve the existing problem. In both cases, the involved parties try to determine solutions that would benefit both parties at the end rather than just one of the parties at the expense of the other one. They are focused on the creation of cooperation rather than the expression of might and poser over the conflicting party.
