Sierra Michelson
I interviewed Sierra Michelson, a banker at Mojave Desert bank in California. Mrs Michelson has worked in this position for the past three years. My friend connected me her since she is her aunt and knew her as a good person. She loves her job and is committed to attaining higher ranks banking sector by furthering her education. It is no surprise that her typical day is long and stressful; however, learning to adjust is rewarding. In the morning she opens the mail and responds to lots and lots of message. These messages come from clients, co-workers and senior management who may need presentations, status reports or calculation checked. Mornings are often slower and less methodical than in the evenings. Unless the day is highly busy, lunch is leisurely made between 45 minutes and one hour. The afternoon involves signing and carrying out the live deals, which include moving millions and even dollar billions to ensure no mistakes are made.
Michelson trained at New York Institute of Finance and undertook a four-year course- bachelor’s degree in banking and finance. She has a licence from FINRA (financial industry regulatory authority). To become a banker, Michelson thought it was good to undertake the relevant training in various career training in banking. The bad points for someone aspiring to be a banker are lack of interest in the field because it requires one’s energy and capabilities fully. The entry salary ranges between $32,000 and $35,000 per year. The highest-paid banker gets an average of $115,161 per year.
It is almost common knowledge that banking jobs are not unique anymore. They pay lower and very minimal job security is assured. The career ceased being the prestigious course it used to be ten years ago. The only way I can overcome the dislike is by fighting to get to the top of the career; maybe it can look better at the top. What I like about banking, it’s that it is a fulfilling career. As a professional banker, one gets the opportunity to help people make important decisions like saving for a home, or college.
Banking career is quite in line with my personality. I love it when I see people succeeding and being happy that I have helped them when they are in need. It gives one the platform to see others happy for making the right decision. I am overwhelmed with joy anytime I help a person.
In relationship to banking career option, I think it is an excellent career for any zealous individual to pursue. However, I am not planning to take it up shortly because I am already settled with the career I am planning to pursue.
I learnt a lot about myself and my banking career during the period. Firstly, banking is an excellent career for anyone interested in maths, personal finance or business. Banks provide a wide array of opportunities, including analytical duties and customer relationships roles. If one likes working with numbers or working in an office, then banking is a great career to try. I also learnt that I am great at interacting with new people and that I can quickly get the information I need if I target to do it. I also realised my desire to learn, which helps me be able to interact with new people from high ranks in career and strike a great conversation with them.
