Social and Cultural Environment

The leading political party of Honduras is the National Party of Honduras (NPH), and the party’s leader is the current president: Juan Orlando Hernandez. The national party does not support the social well-being of the Honduras citizens, and there have been constant protests in major cities since the forceful re-election of the current president.  Recently, police brutality on peaceful protestors has caused uncountable deaths. What is more, the citizens insist that NPH leadership is not democratic, and the government is functioning against the will of a vast majority of the citizens. That is to say, Juan Orlando Hernandez’s leadership is an authoritarian regime that insists on dictatorship and threatens the fundamental social well-being of Honduras citizens.

That aside, cultural freedom is limited in Honduras due to the high crime rate. According to the 2016 intentional homicide fatalities report (per 100,000), El Salvador is (82.84), Honduras (56.5), in contrast to the United States (5.35) (Menjivar and WALSH, 2019, p.12). Apart from the rich and politically influential figures, the human rights system does not care much about the deaths of other citizens. Besides, Honduras has the highest social disparity level amongst all Latin American nations (Kuznar, 2019, p.4).  As a result, many cultural practices are affected. In Honduras, people cannot go out to public parties or barbecues freely. Social interaction is limited to family members or trustworthy friends since violent killings, and homicide cases are quite rampant.

Technological and Infrastructure Environment

According to the Global Competitiveness Report (GCR), Honduras ranks at position 86 out of 139 countries around the globe in terms of technology and infrastructure (Schwab and Salai, 2011, p.15). In the infrastructural categories, the seaport is a leading performer; however, the roads, communication, electricity, and railway systems are in an abysmal state. The poor conditions are prevalent because the government’s financial sector is underdeveloped. Also, most public institutions are monopolistic and public owned. A while back, the Honduras technology had a modest growth of about three to four percent. However, it could not change much; given Honduras is an impoverished country and its national per capita GDP at $2,766 (Kuznar, 2019, p.4).

Given the poor leadership, the economic state of Honduras is terrible, and so is the technology. What is more, it might get worse, given the constant public resistance against the current regime. For instance, thee waste management technology is inferior, River Choluteca, found in the capital city, Tegucigalpa, is a popular dumping site filled with tones of trash that come from the full city dumps. Since the technology is inefficient, there are no proficient public water treatments and recycling plants; thus, the environment is highly polluted and unfavorable to the vast majority. Consequently, the ecosystem is at a high risk of depletion, specifically to the poor who get no conservation efforts from the government.
