Social disorder essay

Social disorder is any public activity going against the social norms defined by a particular society, and many people in the community do the said activities.

Gangs in the streets are social disorder. Most of the gang members in societies comprise of youths either in their teen years or early twenties. According to the social norms, any person within this age group is supposed to be in school, finishing high school or in college. With school workload and their social life of a student revolving around their friends from school or home, and their families, any gangs are a form of social disorder. Also, most of these gangs are up to no good. For example, some of these gang members are involved in selling drugs, or robbing people at night, or bullying other young people in society. Such gangs may consist of school dropouts, people from broken families, or orphaned. This shows there are many problems in society that are unsolved, and no one cares about it.

Public consumption of alcohol and intoxication are signs of social disorder. In a healthy society, most people are busy during the day. The adults are supposed to be working, children in school, teens either in school or working. Drinking mostly starts in the evening when work is over, and one can go and “enjoy” themselves. Also, due to the responsibilities that these groups of people have, they drink for some hours, since they need to work or go to school the following day. When people in society are seen drinking or intoxicated during the day, it shows social disorder in that community. This is a manifestation of many problems ailing such a society, ranging from unemployment, broken marriages, dropping out of schools, and many more. Drinking during the day is not healthy for a person having responsibilities such as a job or family to take care of.

People loitering in society is another social disorder. In a society, people structure their time according to what they do. Either one is working or studying for a student. Loitering is a sign that the people involved have a lot of spare time to do nothing. People loitering in the streets shows there is something wrong in the society, mostly unemployment or school dropout. Since the said persons have nothing to do, this is the same people who end up joining gangs, selling drugs, stealing people’s properties, and causing other insecurities in society.

Street prostitution is another sign of a social disorder. This is a manifestation of not only unemployment for the prostitutes but also the moral degradation of the parties involved. Such females and some males end up in prostitution due to a lack of employment opportunities and a lack of advancement in life. Being in prostitution show that such persons have given up about life.  The fact that it happens in public also indicates there are problems with law and governance in the society. Since prostitution is illegal, government authorities are supposed to make sure such vices are not done, at least in public, and such people are to be caught by police.

Drug sales in the streets is another sign of social disorder. Drug sales also point to other social disorders in society, such as gang groups in the community. Most drug dealers don’t work on their own; they depend on a network of suppliers and other sellers like them. Also, there is a probability of law enforcement being involved in the drug business since these dealers are rarely caught, and if caught, they get away with it. Other social disorders associated with drug sales include prostitution and intoxication. With the use of drugs, we also expect broken families since the drug user ends up causing problems in the family. Even the use and sale of drugs can also point to broken families and other psychological issues.

The feedback that I need

Looking at social disorder from a community perspective, not a national outlook, why would the local government look for solutions to some of these problems and try to help because I believe there are solutions to such issues. Still, I don’t see anything being done.

Is there any way to force some laws to society to help mitigate some problems in the community? For instance, can the law be changed to make any person under a certain age be in school or have completed school and, if not, be forced to go to school?
