Social Inequality Issues on Elderly Abuse
The case of social inequality on the elderly is an enduring feature in our today’s society, a problem that is quite a sensitive yet most ignored topic. The issue of being abused and neglected, isolation of the old, health crisis are some of the social dysfunctions they face. There has equally resulted in them dying sooner in their later life. A good later life is something that every being deserves, whether young or old. Therefore, I will be elaborating on some of these issues, basing them on a collaborative research Canadian journal on aging development solution set to help our mature adult.
Firstly, elder abuse and neglect phenomenon remains to be an underrepresented issue in our lives. Every being, however, has a right to dignity and overly respect as an autonomous being. Yet, with time, the field of elder abuse and neglect has not succeeded in the protection of the elders, the reason being incomplete knowledge i.e., our glass remains half full. There is no idea about the size and nature of the problem, and to the known, we do not know how to solve them. (Lynn,2011, p- 437 -465) Some of these abuses inflicted on the old include physical harm, psychological harm, financial exploitation, sexual harm, and neglect of welfare by their caregivers in the community and institutions. There have been studies on research on the Canadian journal on the old showing the creation of some cohesive policies to help with this problem.
Needless to say, no place is like home. Not only is it a physical structure but is a multilayered meaningful place made of the seen, unseen, and others. Home is a primary environmental focus on most of the older adults, especially the frail, socially isolated, and those in need of help as their symbolic concealment structure. They identify with the dwelling place; the inside less assures safety and shelter, the outsideness suggests potential dangers and exposition of the elements. (Ben, Andrew. and Robert, 2016 p- 103 114) Within this personal space, it is anticipated one can live autonomously and be free. The old, however, when their fragility exceeds, they are enrolled in care homes where they are given surveillance, which in turn leads to issues such as autonomy, obtrusiveness, stigma, etc. such place robs them their ideal independence and as a result losing a sense of personal identity.
A human being is a social being with the rights to form a social relationship to get social support and social networks with another individual in society. Canadian journal on aging shows that some of the issues the older adults face are social isolation and loneliness. The feeling develops due to lack of overall social interaction and desired companion(Anum, Lynn, Corinne, Karen, Raza, and Sander,2017 p-223 245) this issue altogether has led to low self-perceived wellbeing low self-rated physical health, increased rate of dementia, increased stress or even coronally heart diseases.
Conclusively the social inequality on elder abuse is typical issues that therefore need to be addressed deeply and with doable mechanisms implemented to help with them.
