Assignment Guidelines
This assignment will help you to gain and demonstrate entry-level knowledge in socio-cultural foundations of sport and recreation including key concepts, ideas, and research questions in the study of the history, philosophy, and sociology of sport and recreation.
Formal research reported in peer-reviewed journals advances the knowledge base of researchers, students, and practitioners. Your task will be to summarize the article and relate it to content in our course.
- Select a full-length research article from a scholarly, peer-reviewed journal on a topic of your choice pertaining to our course goals and objectives (see syllabus). Make sure that you will be able to connect it to lectures, discussions, and other readings in RSM 335. Make sure to select an article that is worth your time and energy to read it. If you do not select an appropriate scholarly, peer-reviewed journal article, you will not be able to earn a passing grade on the assignment. Note: you must use an article that is not assigned as a class reading for this assignment.
- Submit a PDF of the research article with this assignment.
- Use the “Research Article Review Template” to write the paper (see Canvas site).
- Use APA style for formatting, in-text citations, and references.
- In the “Summary” section, make sure to include research question(s) and/or purpose or thesis statement, significance, theory, methods, procedures, and results. You have to paraphrase. You cannot use long quotations. Use 250 words for the summary (+/- 20 words).
- Use the “Reflections & Connections” section to share your own reflections about the article. Include a discussion about why you chose this article and what implications the information has for your future profession. Make explicit connections between the article, class lectures and discussions, as well as other readings in RSM 335. You have to paraphrase. You cannot use long quotations. Use 750 words for your reflections and connections (+/- 50 words).
