Source Article Review: Relationship Between Nutrition and Health
The following response will examine the article The Relationship between Nutrition and Health by Keri Peterson as the material is directly related to the content of my essay. Peterson asserts that a person’s diet has a profound impact on one’s health as proper counselling in regards to nutrition, exercise, and diet is critical for preventing health complications, along with managing an individual’s health. On that regard, Peterson’s assertion is similar to my inference that nutrition and health go hand-in-hand, therefore, the source will be extremely useful to my essay.
Whereas Peterson does not give deep insight into the association between nutrition and health, her experience as a primary care physician gives credibility to her ideology. She states that she takes care of individuals with a variety of issues, including complications like diabetes, arthritis, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, among other health-related issues (Peterson, 1). Due to such experiences she is able to spot health complications before they develop into a more severe problem. On that account, Peterson’s practice and experience gives credibility to her essay.
Peterson’s assertions will make a key contribution to the content of my research as she discusses issues that I have experienced with my family members. In my research proposal, I state that I come from an extremely sickly family, whereby both my father and mother have a lengthy history of diabetes in their lineage. In addition, my mum had thyroid and has issues with her weight. Due to this, I have always queried how nutrition and health are inter-related and how this association affects one’s body. Peterson manages to answer my question throughout her essay as she states that one’s lifestyle plays a key role in the development of numerous diseases (Peterson, 1). She affirms that people develop health complications due to poor diets and nutrition. Peterson strengthens my suggestion that an improved lifestyle leads to better management of one’s health.
Another key contribution of Peterson’s essay to my proposal is the suggestion that exercising and managing diet are crucial steps in decreasing blood sugars. Such insight will help me to form solutions to my research problem. These solutions will enable my proposal to be practical.
The greatest weakness of Peterson’s article is the lack of suggestions in regards to what one can do stick to a healthy eating regime. The author fails to point out the measures that one can take to control his/her diet as she simply states the type of foods that one should consume. A novice reader can be confused as to what he/she should to manage his/her health. Peterson’s article could have been more useful if she could have suggested how one could maintain how a daily schedule of healthy eating, like making a timetable.
Overall, despite the inherent weaknesses in Peterson’s article, her assertion is similar to my inference that nutrition and health go hand-in-hand, therefore, the source will be extremely useful to my essay. Peterson asserts that a person’s diet has a profound impact on one’s health as proper counselling in regards to nutrition, exercise, and diet is critical for preventing health complications, along with managing an individual’s health. The article will make a contribution to my essay as the author is an experienced physician who comes up with a sound ideology regarding the relationship between nutrition and health. Her insights reinforce my suggestions; thus, this article will be a key resource in developing my research proposal.
