Introduction
Freedom of expression is identified to be essential and a critical fundamental human right that needs to be observed (Article, 2017). Humans need to have the required platform to speak their freely on essential issues that across the globe in both developing and developed states there are still less free societies that still struggle to gain full access to freedom of expression due to several reasons such as discrimination, poverty and cultural pressures. It is essential to highlight often problems that are faced in the community do not have a free expression on the underlying issues that need to be addressed with immediate effect. Instances where there is lack of freedom of expression, there are diverse issues, especially those that affect the minorities go unattended.
Speech by Martin Luther King Jr regarding racial injustice
Martin Luther King Jr was very convinced on the three evils that created a disparity between African Americans and the whites, namely; poverty, racism and war. Through King’s speeches, he was vocal for America to progress effectively; there was a need to ensure racial inequality is eliminated in totality (Jr, 2018). America has the potential to allow both American Americans and the Caucasians to develop and achieve their full potential only if equality was guaranteed.
In King’s speech, he advocated one of the best ways to ensure racial equality was achieved is by allowing the African America to take a vote to be part of the lawmakers by proposing laws and regulations that would take care of their needs (Jr, 2018). Evidently, about the speech, there has not been any form of commitment or determination to ensure equality for African Americans is offered without protests. African Americans are requested by King Jr to join hands and strike peaceful and seek to get their rights as they also need to be treated as equal Americans who have equal opportunities. Issues of poverty, racism and war can all be sorted according to King Jr if racial equality is guaranteed. The preference of King Jr to address these elements was designed to allow the individuals to echo their grievances in the different rallies and protests they opted to undertake to safeguard the community.
Speech on should “hate speech” be free?
There are instances where debates have been made, and this has resulted in matters being raised on how right is freedom of speech (Article, 2017). “Intolerance” and “hate speech” It is evident negative utterances and words have a significant effect. They are more influential in comparison to the positive speech as they tend to cause more rivalry, and if left unchecked, then it is easier for there to be a revolution at the community levels. Therefore, it essential to avoid as hate speech and should not be tolerated at any level. Different social injustices can easily be fuelled by hate speech if the community does not well address them. The press has a role in placing to ensure them not to air any hate speech that is done by different contributors (Article, 2017). For example, racial statement can easily be misunderstood by the community if it is not addressed in the right forum. Thus, despite freedom of expression being recognized as a human right, it is fundamentally important to ensure the only correct content is aired in the community and guarantee the peace in the community. In summary, freedom of speech is a fundamental human right that needs to be safeguarded and used correctly to secure the progress of the community.
