Spirituality Tradition
The Arab world’s understanding of spirituality is closely related to religion and is highly regarded as the pillar that supports the human heart. It is the feeling within a person that informs their actions, perceptions, and attitudes towards the world around them. The term spirituality is also closely linked to the human soul as it directly impacts the inner peace or lack of it in a person. Showing good deeds towards fellow human beings and caring for the needy in society show that one has a good soul and is directed by spiritual beings. According to the Islamic religion, spirituality influence how people interact with one another. For instance, Islamic religion requires that people gather together for prayers to strengthen their faith in the Supreme Being, Allah. Gathering in a religions meeting is a spiritual journey that disconnects people from the physical being and connects them to the Supreme powers, which makes it possible for the powers to guide them in their daily lives.
Spirituality is critical in a person’s life, as it influences various aspects of human life. First, it influences the beliefs and practices of a group of people. For instance, the Muslims believe that one should strengthen their faith in the religion by praying five times a day, facing Mecca. The reason for the prayers is to satisfy their souls. Most importantly, Muslims set aside some days when they offer themselves for prayers through fasting, helping the needy, and reconnecting with Allah. Secondly, spirituality defines people’s behaviors towards their fellow human beings. As noted above, the Islamic religion recognizes the value of helping the needy in society. With the understanding of the relationship between spirituality, faith, religion, and helping the needy in society, Muslims attempt to meet the spiritual and physical needs of human beings around them through assisting them. Essentially, spirituality is vital in guiding how human beings relate to nature, God, and the people around them.
