Strategic IT Paper research
the purpose of this paper is to provide one good example of an IT innovation that a company has launched and how it is linked to helping to drive their business strategy. The company can be your own or one of your selection. It can be a large vs. small company, profit vs. non-profit, private vs. public vs. government etc. The primary deliverables are as follows: 1. Describe the company and its basic business model. (10%) 2. Provide a desсrіption of how the company has used a specific IT (or assembled a group of technologies) to do something truly creative or innovative with the business. This desсrіption should describe the actual technology/technologies used and the nature of the business innovation they enabled. Remember, a business innovation can come in different forms such as new products, processes, business models, or ways to ‘touch’ customers. (40%) Note: ideally, the example you choose should be compelling, ‘cutting edge’, or novel to some degree. An example of something that would not meet this criterion would be to report on the implementation of an ERP system as an innovation to help with process improvement. [unique_solution]While this could be truly innovative for some companies, it is somewhat generic and not what I’d consider novel or cutting edge. 3. Describe how this IT innovation has helped drive the company’s business strategy. Note: as part of this, you’ll need to briefly articulate the firm’s basic business strategy and then how the IT innovation has helped to drive/enable that strategy. (30%) 4. Describe any organization changes that you think the company needed to make (e.g. organizational transformation strategy) for the IT innovation to succeed. Note: if you are picking a company other than your own and you cannot find anything written about organizational changes made, then speculate on that you think would have been necessary organizational changes. (20%) Ideas: if you cannot find an example for your own company, there should be no lack of examples out there for how IT is being used in such industries as college and professional sports (e.g. virtual reality), leisure (e.g. Disney’s magic band), and others.
