Student progress and self-reflection
Summary of Student Progress
I did a pre-intervention and post-intervention on a student by the name Jana. Its primary focus was in first-grade mathematics on skip count by 5, since Jana is a first-grade student. In the pre-intervention on the curriculum-based measurement, the student was to answer 20 questions by filling in the missing value by skip count of 5. The student managed to score 8 out of the 20 questions; in the post-intervention test, the student managed to score 19 out of 20. There is a significant improvement in the student after post-intervention. There was some similarity between pre-intervention and post-intervention test, which impacted a development on the student. The student showed growth in handling the problems.
The intervention phase on the first three CBMs that the student engaged in, there was improvement across all the tests. In the first test, the student had 12 incorrect, on the third test, he got seven incorrect, and on the third intervention, the student failed only four questions. The analysis shows the impact of the responses on the student. Therefore, having a progressive improvement in all the test. With more intervention, the student will increase the rate of understanding, leading to advance in the student results. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Generally, the analysis showed that the student was struggling at the beginning of the test before the intervention, whereby the student was unable even to do the basic mathematics tests. That implies the student had low knowledge about the tests. But after having lessons about the problem testing, and also doing a lot of practice on the same. The student also showed the ability to doing complex calculations. The student has grown in confidence in handling the mathematics problems. Therefore the student results have had an upward growth.
Self-reflection
This assignment was a great experience. Getting experience in teaching as well as learning a lot from lectures. While feeling very confident because, at this point in life, I am capable of successfully teaching students and have an impact on their understanding. I have gained very many and useful skills, most of which came from me interacting with the student, learning how to do a lesson plan. And also, from the lectures I attended. Working to build my profession and developing my abilities to teach, is part of my professional goals, therefore gaining experience on how to learn information. I did not find any CBM for my student on skip count by five, so, I had to create one by myself. I am not that good in creating a lesson plan but doing lesson plan four times was good practice for me to get better when I have to create one as a teacher. Working one to one with the student and seeing the progress in her made me feel delighted that I was able to help the student improve in her maths skill.
In the beginning, the life of teaching was always uncomfortable while guiding the student. But now I can talk to a large group of students with high self-esteem. There was growth in confidence while teaching, and also multitask while teaching. I have also grown my social skills with the student. I was able to do interactions with my student, both in class and outside the classrooms, under less formal occasions. Gaining the needed confidence and believing in the knowledge I deliver. (Scardamalia & Bereiter, 2017).
From the lectures and teachings, I have been able to know my strengths. One of my advantages is the unique technique that I use while teaching in the classrooms that promote learning to greater heights and creating a conducive learning environment. Having high discipline levels has improved my teaching deliverance. Therefore, this can be attribution to the lectures I attended while changing my perception. I should not only focus on giving the students optimal studying habits — the focus on building opportunities for knowledge while teaching. Also, supporting the student’s talent. I have gained techniques that will help me get the materials that will help me enhance my expertise while teaching. I will also be able to guide students on how to get references that will help them in doing their assignments and even access to excellent academic sources.
For my future works, there is a need for the application of new techniques that I have learned while teaching. Consequently, involving the students while preparing and also monitoring the expression of students to gauge their understanding (Hibbs, Soussou, Jolly & Fridman, 2016). I am being able to create lesson plans early, to help in better delivering while in class. I am even making sure that the techniques used will cause the students to be more engaged and have active learning habits. My gain of confidence will also promote a better learning environment and better formal interactions with students.
