success, or potential success, of the sustainability initiative based on the decision making processes
- Make sure that you have a clear argument weaved throughout your essay. You need to analyse the success, or potential success, of the sustainability initiative based on the decision making processes applied. Here are some guiding questions that might help: Based on the evidence from your research, and your understanding of ‘sustainability’, do you think that the project has demonstrated a high level of success? Shows potential for success? Has not been very successful at all? What does success mean in the context of sustainability and different stakeholder perspectives?[unique_solution] Whatever your argument is, you must also explain why. For example, do you consider the project unsuccessful because it has failed to consider the various stakeholders who may be affected by its implementation? The argument needs to be stated within the introduction, and it needs to be backed up with evidence in the body of the essay. Further, the argument needs to be revisited in the conclusion of your essay. 2. In order to address the above I think narrowing the scope of your essay topic might help. You draw on some great examples to outline various models – perhaps rather than mention them all, try focusing on one and go into greater detail. For example, the Mungo National Park, you mentioned it involved shared decision making processes – focusing on this as your main case study rather than going really broad will allow you to explore who and how various stakeholder groups are involved. 3. To set all of this up make sure your introduction: a. Introduces the case study (name of initiative) b. Identifies the key players (list the stakeholders and decision makers), and c. State your argument as to the success of the project (see point 1 above) Don’t worry about an abstract merge your abstract and introduction 4. We really want to know who the stakeholders involved are and how they are involved in the decision making process as it relates to the initiative you have chosen. Drawing on some broader academic literature on decision making processes and participation might help you do this too. There is a list of recommended readings in the unit guide. Please let me know if you have any further questions or if anything is not clear! Great work for starting early! Success with writing often comes from doing several drafts/ versions.
