Summarize the main idea of model of counseling of your choice?
Cognitive therapy
Cognitive therapy involves what people think that influences the general behavior of an individual. It is the power of mind based on experience, which leads to dysfunctional emotions and an attitude that destroys a person’s image. Engaging clients to change their thoughts by identifying and questioning their mental picture can make an individual change his or her feelings on what to do. Therefore, cognitive therapy helps people who are depressed and pessimists to perceive things positively.
What are the main goals of this psychotherapy?
Cognitive psychotherapy helps clients to understand how negative perceptions contribute to negative feelings. Also, it prevents future episodes of grief by changing their beliefs, thus promoting personal development growth. Another goal for cognitive therapy is that it facilitates emotional feelings by teaching people techniques on how to question and identify forms of distress and distorted feelings
What kinds of psychological problems or “disorders” is your chosen model of counseling useful for?
The psychological problems associated with cognitive therapy involve panic disorder, anxiety disorder, personality disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, alcohol dependence, schizophrenia, and post-traumatic stress, among others. When one has these kinds of problems, one should seek counseling.
What are your thoughts about this model, and WHY?
Cognitive theory, in most cases, focusses on the theory of mind and not what to do. In this regard, the brain is part of the body that is affected. An affected mind begets negative emotions and feelings, leading to weak and negative behavior in society. For instance, when an individual is stressed due to experience, he or she gets depressed. Most people go through depression, especially when they are under financial difficulties, thus making them have a negative attitude towards and emotions towards certain people or objects. It is in this situation that they make bad decisions.
