Summer School Application

I am writing to express my interest in joining the International Summer School (ISS) at the University of Oslo, Norway. Currently, I am a college student who seeks to streamline the career progression in international relations. I envision myself playing an active role in diplomacy because of my interest in understanding how countries form bi- and multi-lateral trade agreements. Moreover, I endear how different nations collaborate to handle incidences that threaten border security, and I would like to devote my understanding of the fundamental aspects that surround peacekeeping missions among countries. The program creates a unique learning environment where one interacts with people who share the same interest. Therefore, I am fascinated to be part of the summer program because of the exposure to real-life experiences that will be invaluable to my career ambitions and me in the future.

Interpersonal skills are essential in the international context. The scholarship will improve my attributes due to the environment that brings together people with different nationalities. As a result, it will be an opportunity to enhance my cultural competence as I interact with diverse communities. The unique education environment will enable me to experience a different culture than what I am used to. Through this, I will be knowledgeable about different cultures and people’s perspectives. Besides, I feel the need to expand my studies beyond the regular curriculum by facing practical challenges. Joining the summer program lays the ground for establishing friendships and professional networks that will traverse the duration of the program. Being away from my natural environment will increase personal independence and ensure I gain confidence in the decisions I make. These will be critical in peace and conflict studies, where I will explore different ways of dispute and conflict resolutions (Jeong, 2017). Moreover, I anticipate learning more about the role of institutions in promoting peace within and beyond a country.

I consider myself knowledgeable in matters governance. Subsequently, I will make an immense contribution to the program, particularly on issues such as formulating alternatives to crisis management and peacebuilding initiatives. I do not have any previous experience of studying or travelling abroad. It means this chance is unique to me because it will be the first time for me to set foot in a foreign country. My family has been supportive in my studies, and they are ready to sponsor my scholarship to the ISS. It is a sacrifice on their end to see me excel academically and in my desired profession. I will be an on-campus student, and although it will strain my family to pay the accommodation fee, I will be glad if the scholarship committee would grant me half the basic cost of an on-campus student. This will prevent financial constraints and enable my family to sustain my stay in the university program.
