Surveillance and Intervention for Non-communicable diseases

With the increased deaths and disabilities across the world due to non-communicable diseases, there is a need to implement a public health surveillance system to mitigate this problem (World Health Organization, 2003). collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of data regarding diabetes risk factors, prevention, treatment, and management. According to the Chronic Disease Surveillance STEPS Approach (2019) film, the surveillance system plays a significant role in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice. For a diabetic control setting, the surveillance system I will design will be aligned to collecting substantive data on how many people are developing and have died due to diabetes and how much illness for morbidity is due to diabetes. The system will also collect data on the prevalence and incidence of non-risk factors. Death data will be collected from chronic disease registries, health surveys, and medical records (Remington et al., 2010).  The system’s data and interpretation will be based on diabetes risk factors, deaths, and morbidity.  Finally, the system design will disseminate analyzed data to public health institutions.

In the diabetic setting, I will use the WHO stepwise approach. The WHO approach will be robust in my surveillance because it provides an easier way to collect small amounts of quality data that can be used continuously through the other steps. Data collected in step 1, such as diet, activity, and medical history on diabetic people, can be used in other stages to effectively evaluate the prevention, treatment, and management of diabetes.
