Sweats shops in America

Introduction

In American context a sweat shop, is any factory or industry that is known to be violating the labor laws in the state.  Many believe that sweat shops try to end poverty though it is not the truth. There is violation of labor laws but this could not be a condition affecting, the functions of the sweat shops in any state.

Thesis Statement

Sweats shops seem to be are contributing increment of poverty in the developing nation. Women and children are the targeted candidates to work on factories, consequently we have emerging issues like unfair wages, child labor, unreasonable working hours and lack of benefits for workers .Sweat shops violate labor laws, which could lead to mistreatment of the workers.

Body

Main supporting point 1.Workers gets unfair wages

Examples/Details/Explanations:

  1. Women and children are considered to be less superior in the society meaning that they can easily be persuaded by their bosses to do extra work at little payment.

Unlike men the labor in industries can manipulate women and children towards performing some hard tasks

Working for long hours but at the end they get little payment

The payment is less is not even close to what male counterparts are getting (Garylalakis ,2012)..

b.The employees have no power to form trade unions which could make them empowered.

This is a failure and they will still remain harassed by their employer  .

This conditions leaves the working groups ,with no say

c .due to poverty the employees have no time to negotiate on the wages they will get on daily or monthly basis.

Some of the women and children just get into the sweatshops with aim of getting  funds which can enable them to buy foods .

Once they get little pay to sustain their living standards   they feel comfortable

Main supporting point 2.unreasonable hours if Working in sweatshops

Examples/Details/Explanations:

a Working for more than the normal standards could be an added payment on to overtime.

American labor laws states that it is violation of the law to misuse any labor .Exploitation of the workers at the expense of the company owners earning profits

“human right that is being violated is the right to fair wage”

.

b .Unreasonable working hours could lead to workers disagreements which could result to risks.

And disrespect thence affecting the factory production.

Due to fatigue and mistreatments from the supervisors the employees could come into differences between them and the fellow students(Ross, 2006)

c .Working for long time without better payment could be a kind of employees exploitation the workers at expense of the profits they get.

Exploitation of an employee is a case, and could result misuse of the employees

government intervention might result to closure of the sweatshop factory leaving some other employees job less (Shaw et al ,2007).

Main supporting point 3 sweat shops led to child labor

Examples/Details/Explanations:

a Introducing young children to work at early age could make the children leave class to work on part time at the agricultural industries ,due to their ages they get very little payment .

The law of the land forbids employing or hiring people with the age of below 18 years  “75% of  sweatshops violate the health and safety laws”( Kristof, 2009).

This is violation of the labor laws ,there should be no children working in sweatshops .  Child labor could change the children life to poor since they are not getting enough food.

They are not having time to prepare good meals due to commitments serving the industries exploiting them . .

Conclusion

In conclusion the department of labor in the developing nations is faced with challenges which result to proliferation of many problems, including unfair wages, unreasonable  working hours ,child labor .The relevant authorities and governments should develop strategies aimed at ,improving the work standards ,and setting new labor laws. Sweatshops will result to poverty instead of reducing poverty
