Tamil Nadu will offer portability for ration card holders from 1st April
The Edappadi K Palaniswami government has come up with intra-state portability of ration cardholders for the families in Tamil Nadu from the 1st of April. This is in accordance with the BJP government’s idea of the ‘One Nation, One Ration Card’ scheme. It can be expected that this scheme will come up on the 1st of June.
Moreover, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R Kamaraj stated that intra-state portability of ration cardholders had been launched in two districts as of now. Further, expansion of the scheme benefits would be implemented from the 1st of April. Through this, the cardholders can get food grains at a reasonable price from the shops of the public distribution system in Tamil Nadu.
The state has launched the scheme in Tirunelveli and Tuticorin district on the 1st of February. There are a total of 9 lakh cardholders in the above-said districts and out of these, only 9000 are given the card. With these, they can get the ration items. In this relation, the state minister further stated that the program would be implemented from the 1st of April for the ease of the citizens.
After a successful launch, it can offer benefits for almost 2.02 crores cardholders in the state. With the cards, they can get the items from almost 35, 244 price shops in Tamil Nadu. One of the benefits for the migrant laborer’s cardholders is that they get food grain under the national food security act. However, they can look for the items from PDS shops located in any part of the country.
Officials are of the opinion that they shall help for seamless implementation of the scheme in the state and update software for the same in different PDS shops. By using the updated version of the software, people living in metro cities and villages can get access to the food grains. With this, they can easily get food grains from PDS shops based on the allotment to the cards. This shall help the ones who are living far off from the shops and store food grains every month.
In due course of offering the grains every month, it would help the government officials to stock 5% extra items in the shops after the scheme has been implemented successfully in all districts across the city. Therefore, the state government is trying to implement the scheme at the earliest for the help of the citizens to get access to food grain items.
