Technology and computerization

Technology and computerization are always under sadistic scrutiny by many who are talented in picking apart the milestones of technological advancements. The critics of technological advancements would like the entire world to believe that computerization is destroying humanity and that computers are unfairly displacing human beings in the various spheres of living. To give credit to their whole-hearted efforts of “saving humanity,” there are a great many people who now follow such fallacies religiously. However, such arguments are far from reality. From a different point of view, computers are complementing human beings and filling the gap that our flaws painfully leave. Computers do not, as some may say, make human beings lazy.

According to (Chatfield, 2019) computers, help to sharpen our talents and skills and help us think on our feet. A good example is the much ill-spoken of video games. One indisputable fact about video games is that they are enjoyable and immersive. People tend to drown in the sensation that video games offer, and this is the staple point of the critics of video gaming. Nevertheless, one thing that seems to elude the minds of critics is, just as building expertise is enjoyable, so is completing a video game challenge. The thrill comes from the success one achieves at the end of an adept challenge, and to apply a large amount of brainpower to beat the opponent. As such, it makes human beings more psychologically active and not lazy (Chatfield, 2019).

Secondly, computers offer a certain level of consistency and efficiency that human beings cannot guarantee. One can schedule a computer to carry out a task severally, with the same precision and without compromising on the details they require. As the old phrase puts it, “man is to error,” and computers come in handy to cover for the errors that the human brain might miss out. Automation improves the efficiency and reliability of the final output (Chatfield, 2019). Therefore, if someone wants to rely on automated systems to minimize errors, it does not make them lazy; it only ensures that they want to ensure efficiency. They are probably going out for the best, which is human.

In conclusion, while computers and technology, in general, may threaten the supremacy of humans and tighten up the competition, it does make life less fussy and graceful. The human brain might be a powerful “supercomputer,” but it is also subject to emotions and biases that the computers might not have. In the end, instead of making humans lazy, computers serve to complement humans and make us more competitive.
