Technology in patient education
Information Technology has a wide range of applications in the medical field, and its wide adoption is due to its overall effectiveness in patient health. Even as we appreciate the milestones it has made in this area, medical experts believe proper patient engagement in their treatment goes a long way in assuming an integral responsibility from the nurses, doctors, and the patients themselves.
Information Technology has made it possible for patients to create an online portal where every detail of their condition, diagnosis, and prescription is available at any time. This has helped patients get a full picture of what is going on with their health. Another way has been the introduction of interactive patient engagement technology techniques. Of the vast array of techniques available, electronic health records (EHRs) have shown a great impact on patient education in a significant way. This information is available on screens like iPads or tablets, and patients are well aware of all efforts put in place to improve their health.
It is apparent that the importance of information technology is not only on the patients themselves; this information also helps the nurses and the medical practitioners in charge of the patient in monitoring and evaluation. There are, therefore, more advantages information technology tows along in patient education, than there are shortcomings.
