temples of the holy spirit

The issue analyzed in this case study is the use of Juuls. This is a brand of e-cigarettes that have become popular among the youth. It is a battery-powered device which allows the users to vape or inhales an aerosolized liquid which contains nicotine. These devices are not easily detected by the adults or the parents as they look like computer flash drives. It can also be hidden easily in the pockets. When heated, the device creates a vapor which is inhaled by the user.

Most of these devices contain nicotine which is highly addictive. This substance also has a negative impact on the development of the brains of the youth since their brains are developing. The nicotine has a long term effect on their brains. The side effects of this substance include the increase in the blood pressure, lung diseases, increase in the heart rate, resistance to insulin which results from type 2 diabetes, and chronic bronchitis. There are also harmful substances contained in the e-cigarettes that the producers claim to be nicotine-free. Substances such as formaldehyde have been found to be contained in these cigarettes. The Bible does not directly talk about vaping or smoking, specifically by its name. However, some biblical principles can be taken into account when deciding on whether to Juul or not. The human conviction is that the detrimental effects of juuling outweighs the positives and that to the young believers, the use of these products is sinful. The Bible in 1st Corinthians 6:19 says that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, ingesting something harmful into our bodies knowingly violates the principle of taking care of the temples of the Holy Spirit. God wants us to use our bodies for His glory. Using juuls or other harmful substances violates this principle. Some people believe that the use of juuls that do not contain nicotine is not sinning. This substance is addictive and does not have any health benefits to the user.

It is also important to note that God designed the human lungs to process the air that the people breathe and separate oxygen from the carbon dioxide in the air. The entire respiratory substance is designed for this and not to filter any other substance that human beings ingest into their bodies in the form of drugs. The use of juuls or vaping introduces foreign substances into the lungs. This puts a lot of strain in the lungs and makes it difficult for these lungs to perform their intended purpose of filtering the air. Some of these substances get stuck in the lungs causing illnesses and diseases. To treat these illnesses, the person has to undergo a lot of expenses, or can even die. Christians should not entertain the use of addictive substances because it damages their bodies. These substances take control of the bodies of the users, and they lack control of their bodies.

There are various societal issues of concern about juuling. The public health community is concerned about the use of these substances, especially among the youth. Even though the companies producing them are disputing the fact that the youth are the major users of these products, the reality is that this is the case. The young people are abusing these substances. It is believed that exposure to these substances, especially at a younger age, affects the youth as they grow. It is important for the various agencies and the government to address this issue. Even though the F.D.A is trying to address these concerns, much need to be done about it. The addiction that arises from the use of these products is also an issue of concern to the various stakeholders. The costs associated with the use of these products are also enormous.

  1. Public Health Intervention and Education

There are various evidence-based interventions that can be put in place to prevent the youth from smoking/juuling/vaping. It is important to note that the companies producing these products target young people with enticing words, ads and price discounts. The first intervention is to tax these companies so that these products can be expensive for these young people. The high prices can dissuade them from buying these products since they are price sensitive.

The other intervention is restricting access to these products by young people. Setting a minimum age for the sale of these products will ensure that the products are not accessible by the youth and teenagers until they have attained a specific age. The other intervention is through the use of media campaigns. The education of the youth about the negative effects of these products helps them to avoid it. The education also helps the youth to understand how they are exploited by the tobacco companies. These educational programs need to be developed at the school and community levels. It should be conducted in such a way that the youth take part in coming up with the alternatives of curbing the use of the products.
