The 1950s Culture Research

Introduction

During the end of the second world war in America, the American culture developed across the United States. Teenagers gained their independence through listening to their music and by stopping to wear the same clothing as their parents. Music in the 1950s was primarily influenced by the African American culture of the South. Jazz and Blues played a significant role in establishing new music genres of the time (Vaillancourt 9). The most popular type of music in the 1950s was rock and roll (Vaillancourt 10). Rock and roll were featured by repetitive chord progressions, tempos, loud guitars and pulsating drums. This essay focuses on discussing Rock and Roll as the most popular types of music during the 1950s, and why the music continues to be the world’s most recognizable and popular form of music.

Rock and Roll

Rock and roll were first introduced into the world by the explosive events of the mid-1950s (Halliwell 2). the music genre had themes and artistic styles that were unique, brief and which spawned the movement. Individual sin the 1950s were innocent and safe, and rock and roll music established a foundation for the ideals that the young people would pursue such a campaign (Vaillancourt 11). Rock and roll, like any other ideology, responded to issues of sexuality drugs, race relations, and hunger around the globe. Most of these concerns emerged from young teenagers who looked at rock and roll as a lifestyle that enhances the significance of their typical response, which was expressed through the music.

While music in the 1950s lacked any political and social themes, the energy, originality, and vitality of rock and roll music were unmatched (Vaillancourt 13). By the mid-1950s, rock and roll had become an alternative term for rhythm and blues, and it was a popular genre among the groups of youth who had discovered R and B. most people has not realized the young Americans in the 1950s used rock and roll as a channel to pour out their emotions (Vaillancourt 14). Some songs of some artists like Little Richard and Elvis Presley pinpointed feelings among the youth. These songs arose the spirits of revolt teenagers who were hardly children anymore. Rock and roll were synonymous with its dance crazes among the youth people for all they did were to celebrate the joy of the youth. Artists like Elvis Presley introduced torso moves and gyrating hips and a body attitude, which seemed to express the idea of letting loose and doing your own thing, that many people imitated. Anyone can suggest that based on these aspects of rock and roll, dance in the 50s was dirtier and liberated, hence the perfect rebellion act for youths during the decade.

Most people believe that rock and roll died in the 1960s, but no, the music is still alive (Guided readings n.d). The idea s and feelings presented by rock and roll are still active in people’s souls, including sex and freedom. However, it is hard to say that it still lives as a type of music, since a lot has been altered since the 1950s (Guided readings n.d). For more than four decades now, the most popular genre of music around the globe as being rock and roll.

The 1950s was a decade of the middle class, traditionalist suburban white family values. At the time of the 1950s, a man was the head of the family, while wives stayed at home to take care of their children.
