Natural disasters refer to those disasters that occur close to people’s structures and economic assets. Natural disasters are caused by bombing events, biological, hydrological conditions, or natural processes like earthquakes and landslides (Quarantelli, 2016). Disaster preparedness is a measure employed to reduce disaster effects. This study focuses on mechanisms in place for early detection of a potential bombing and the infrastructure to mitigate the loss of life during and after an event, issues that should be addressed when preparing a disaster preparedness plan, mitigation measures, preparedness, reporting procedures and response to a bombing in New York City.
New York City has early detection of a potential bombing and infrastructure to mitigate the loss of life during and after events; mitigation measures activities have been designed to minimize possible adverse effects of the explosion (Johnson, 2018). Besides, the response is now able to act according to the unavoidable impacts to save lives, protect property, and meet fundamental human rights. Several reporting procedures have been used in New York City such as: Ensuring that warning and communication systems are in proper working condition, conducting community-level mock drillings, monitor and evaluation of community, allocate tasks to the different resources organizations and decisions making related to resource management and information supply to the state government.
Conclusively, to combat bombing events, New York City has been practiced through the formation of community-based disaster management task force, offering training to the taskforce, giving trauma counseling, and establishment emergency operation centers (Granot & Levinson 2017). Having a bombing preparedness plan has assisted in the reduction of its effects before and after the event.
